Topics of Interest

One Thing Needed: With Ryan Hemphill committed to drive the No. 4 Bobby Hamilton Racing truck for the remainder of the 2002 season, the only thing left that they need is a sponsor.

"This team has a fleet of No. 4 Dodge Rams at the shop in Tennessee, and we have shown in the first two races together that this team can run with the leaders; now we just need a sponsor to keep things headed in the right direction," said Hemphill. "I knew when I got here that this was a good team, but I think we have the makings for what could be a great team. I've never been surrounded by a group of guys that works harder than Bobby's teams do. They only want to win races and that is a nice change from what you see with some of the other teams out there. It's fun to be a racer and be on this team."

Hemphill and Crew Chief, Randy Seals, hit it off the first time the two met before the South Boston, Virginia event in September.

"I had seen him race in St. Louis with everyone else here but when I met him for the first time a few weeks ago, I knew he could be good," said Seals. "I just did not know how well we would work together. It's been a lot of fun so far, and I have got to believe the best is yet to come. We've been over-achieving since the day he got here and there's no reason to think we won't do it again this week at California."

The No. 4 team that Seals oversees currently sits in the 15th position in the owner's points standings. The team can mathematically get as high as 13th place before the season ends in Homestead in three weeks, but it would require several top ten finishes.

"We had a goal of the top 25 in driver points and to finish 13th or better in the owner points," said Hemphill. "We just need to run with the leaders and everything else will work itself out along the way. I know this team can do, it I just have to step up to the plate and make it happen on the track."

Points Battle: Hemphill continued his rise in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver points standings, moving up six more positions after the Las Vegas event three week's ago. He now sits in the 38th position, just a mere 13 positions from the team's goal of 25th place by seasons end.
"We made up a little ground last race, but we still were a little disappointed about the finish," said Hemphill. "We had a solid top ten before the electrical problem, but what can you do. That's just racing sometimes."

Career Starts: Hemphill will be making his fifth start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this week at California Speedway. In his first four starts in the series, he has recorded one top ten finish and earned $ 39,895.

Championship Hunt: With three races remaining in the 2002 season, there are still 10 teams that can win the Truck Series Championship.

This Week's Truck: Hemphill will be driving "Homer" again this weekend. It is the same truck that he ran at Las Vegas Motor Speedway three weeks ago and also finished in the tenth position at South Boston Speedway.
