Topics of Interest
West Coast Swing: The No. 18 Dickies Square
D Dodge Team did not make the trip back to Mount Juliet, Tennessee this
past week. They traveled directly to Phoenix where they worked on the
trucks in the hotel parking lot.
"It's different," said Danny Rollins, crew chief of the No. 18 team. "This
is just one of the things we do. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to go
home so we just came on over here to get a few things done."
Pressley and the Team are clinging to the last spot still in the
Championship hunt. They enter this week's race in the seventh position in
the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings.
"Our year is just about over in the points race, but we still would like to
get a few good finishes in the last two races," said Pressley.
Past History:
There is a lot of history for Bobby Hamilton
Racing here at Phoenix International Raceway. It is the site of many firsts
for not only the truck organization, but also its owner, Bobby Hamilton. In
2000, the organization won its first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at
the track, and in 1990 Hamilton made his first NASCAR Winston Cup Series
start of his career at Phoenix. Also in 1996, Hamilton won his very first
race on the Winston Cup tour.
The No. 18 Team's history at the track is as follows:
Year Start Finish Driver
1999 11 26 Butch Miller
2000 1 1 Joe Ruttman
2001 15 12 Joe Ruttman
Earnings:
Pressley needs only $11,585 during the last two events to surpass the $
400,000 mark in career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series earnings.
"It's not a big deal," said Pressley. "I
don't keep up with many records or things like that. I just want to win
races. That's all."
Testing:
Pressley spent earlier this week testing at
Homestead Miami Speedway. There is an outside chance he will attempt to
qualifying for the final race of the season.
Championship Hunt: With two races remaining
in the 2002 season, there are still seven teams that can win the Truck
Series Championship. The last team that can still mathematically win the
championship is the No. 18 Dickies Square D Dodge of Bobby Hamilton Racing.
This Week's Truck: Pressley will be racing
"Angel" again this week at Phoenix International Raceway. Angel won at
Michigan earlier this season with Pressley, and in 2001 it won at Pikes
Peak International Raceway with Ruttman behind the wheel. The truck also
had 11 other starts in 2001, which resulted in three top five and eight top
ten finishes.
