No. 8 Team a Pinball Again This Week
Bill Lester began the Advance Auto Parts 250 with one goal in mind, and
that was to get the black cloud that has been hanging over the team the
first two events behind him. Unfortunately, Lester's day began with a bang
and ended with a bang. Just 27 laps into the event there was crash in turn
four, Lester slowed to avoid the accident, but the No. 5 truck behind him
did not get stopped and shoved the No. 8 truck into the accident.
After the collision, the No. 8 truck was damaged both in the front and the
rear. It was apparent that it was just a matter of soldiering on and
getting a finish. But with just under ten laps remaining in the event,
Lester was involved in another accident that ended the team's day.
The final accident was just icing on the cake so to speak. The team had
battled back to the 19th position before the final accident. Sadly, for the
team they recorded their first DNF (Did Not Finish) since Kentucky Speedway
last July.
Lester was credited with 25th position. He remains in the third position in
the Rookie of the Year race, just 11 points out of the lead. He and the
team are in the 20th position overall in the Truck Series points standings.
"I can't tell you how I feel," said Lester. "I'm just crushed. Everyone of
the guys on this team are working as hard as we can to get a solid finish,
and we just can't seem to get a break. We'll just have to get them in St.
Louis. I've raced there before so I feel a little better about going
there." Lester was the top-qualifying rookie for the second race in a row.
