Topics of Interest
Final Race: Bill Lester and the No. 8 Dodge
Motorsports Team roll into the final race of the season with one goal in
mind for qualifying, and that is to move up just one spot this week. The
last two week's Lester has qualified third at California Speedway, and
second at Phoenix International Raceway. So if the trend holds true then
Lester should start from the pole.
"If it were only that simple," said Lester. "There is no doubt the last few
weeks have been great in qualifying, but I know it will not be as easy as
it sounds. We're not worrying about qualifying, what we need is a good
finish to show for our efforts. That's what we are looking to accomplish."
Rookie of the Year: Lester enters the final
race of the year in the second in the Rookie of the Year standings. He can
not catch Brendan Gaughan but he can hold off Jason Small for second place
with a solid run.
Past History: Last year the Homestead Miami
Speedway event was the second race on the schedule. During that event the
No. 8 Dodge Motorsports Team with Willy T. Ribbs behind the wheel start
from the 23rd position and finished in the 19th position. This will be
Lester's first time at the facility.
"Finally, I will have been to all the tracks on the circuit," said Lester.
"It's been one new track after another all year and that is tough when
you're a rookie. Hopefully with one year of knowledge under our belt we
will be a little better next year when we show up at a track. At least I
will be able to find the track."
Career Starts: Lester enters the final race
of the looking to make his 28th career start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series. During which time he has amassed over $ 260,000 in career earnings.
"Well it's been a good year," said Lester. "This time last year I was just
hoping to compete full-time on the Truck Series and for it to become a
reality has been something special. Now I hope to spend the off-season
reflecting on what the team and I did this year and what we can do to
improve ourselves next year. I know we've had ups and downs all year but we
have the foundation to build something very special. Now it's just up to
all of us to take advantage of this opportunity and not squander it away."
Championship Hunt:
With one race remaining in the 2002 season,
there are three teams that can win the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series
Championship.
This Week's Truck: Lester will be back
behind the wheel of his favorite truck, Trix for the final race of the
season at Homestead Miami Speedway. Trix has eight previous starts in the
Craftsman Truck Series with a best finish of 11th at Texas in May. That is
also Lester's career best finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
