Danny Gill Back Home at Bobby Hamilton
Racing
Mount Juliet, Tennessee (December 7, 2001)- After a year and a half of
working in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and for competing NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series Teams, Danny Gill made the choice to return to the
organization that gave him he first real shot in racing. Gill will return
to the crew chief position on the No. 18 Bobby Hamilton Racing Team for the
2002 season.
“These was just the right move for me at this time,” said Danny Gill. “It
has been hard traveling back and forth from Oklahoma to Tennessee. My home
is in Tennessee and Bobby’s (Hamilton) is on the move to win a title and I
wanted to get back with a team that can get it done next year. The have
some really exciting things in the works as far as a driver and sponsor and
when Bobby called me I just couldn’t say no.”
Gill returns to Bobby Hamilton racing after spending last year with driver
Dennis Setzer where they won one race and two poles.
Gill’s record at Bobby Hamilton Racing in 1999 and 2000 included 37 events,
one win, four poles, eight top fives, and 18 top tens. He started with the
team when it was formed in early 1999 and stayed with the organization
through July of 2000.
“We’re very excited to have Danny back in the family,” said Bobby Hamilton,
the owner of Bobby Hamilton Racing. “He is one of the sharpest guys out
there, and it was good to get him back. I think when we announce the driver
on the No. 18 next week, everyone in the Truck Series will know that we are
coming out this year with one goal in mind, and that is to win that
championship.”
The current Bobby Hamilton Racing lineup for 2002 includes Brian Rose,
driving the No. 4 SunClear Energy Dodge Ram with Crew Chief Danny Rollins,
Bill Lester driving the No.8 Dodge Dealers Dodge with Kip McCord as crew
chief, and a driver yet to be announced in the No. 18 Dodge Truck with Gill
making the calls from pit road.
