Dennis Setzer No.18 Bessemer City Dodge Ram Mountain Dew 250 Fueled by Winn Dixie Talladega Superspeedway TALLADEGA, AL. (October 6, 2008) – After qualifying eighth, the seventh straight top-10 qualifying time in a row, for the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday, Dodge Driver Dennis Setzer knew he had a horse underneath him for the race. He proved that by leading the race, overcoming a pit road penalty for too fast entering pit road and held his own in the top 10 most of the event. In the final laps Setzer tried to find a position to move past his competitors but was blocked in resulting in a 13th place finish. The No. 18 Dodge Ram Race Recap · Setzer continued his top 10 qualifying streak Friday afternoon by posting a lap of 178.414 mph. It was the team’s seventh straight top-10 starting position.· Once the race got underway Setzer jumped to the outside to move through the field but in typical Talladega fashion, got hung out and lost positions. So he held his own in18th until the second caution waved on lap 20 for debris.· Crew Chief Marcus Richmond made the call to bring Setzer down for service. "It is driving okay," said Setzer as he made his way down pit road. The Dodge Racing Team jumped into action changed right side tires and added fuel before sending him on his way. The flawless seven-second pit stop moved Setzer up eight positions and he restarted in 10th spot.· "It is still driving good," said Setzr while running seventh on lap 32. "I am just riding around staying out of trouble." Richmond agreed and encouraged Setzer to stay on the bottom lane as much as possible as it was proving to be the fastest way around the track.· Several laps later green flag pit stops began to take place among the leaders. The No. 18 Dodge was getting great fuel mileage which enabled Setzer to stay out and take over the lead on lap 53.· On lap 57 under green-flag conditions he hit pit road for two cans of fuel and left side tires. As he entered pit road Setzer, trying make up every second he could, slammed on his breaks in an attempt to slow down the No. 18 Dodge right before the cut off line for speed check on pit road. Unfortunately, Setzer was unable to slow the Dodge Ram down fast enough and was issued a pass-through penalty for speeding while entering pit road. He restarted 18th.· "Don’t worry about it Dennis," said Richmond after the penalty. "We don’t have to pit again and everyone else does."· An accident in turn four brought out the fourth caution of the day on lap 68. The leaders hit pit road for fuel. Setzer stayed out and inherited the lead.· Over the next eight laps Setzer led the field through the wide Talladega turns. On lap 69 fellow competitor, Collin Braun, passed Setzrer on the outside and took the lead.· In the final 20 laps of the event Setzer remained poised to make his move back to the front if the opportunity unfolded. He held his own as they ran four-wide around the superspeedway for the closing laps of the 94 lap event.· The high line proved to be the ticket on the final lap of the event, and unfortunately it was not that way for most of the race. Setzer, blocked in on the low lane, used his front bumper to push the trucks in front of him forward, but had to settle for 13th place finish when the checkered flag fell.· "It got snappy loose on that final lap," said a disappointed Setzer as he made his way to pit road. After he climbed out of the No. 18 Dodge he realized he had a flat right front tire and was fortunate that it didn’t make his race ending more spectacular.Todd Bodine went on to win the Mountain Dew 250. Ron Hornaday Jr. finished second, Kyle Busch, Braun and Mike Wallace followed in the top five.
