After posting the 17th fastest time in the final practice on Friday night the team made several changes before qualifying was held on Saturday morning.
Once the green flag dropped Compton did not waste any time in making up the ground he lost in qualifying. He gained nine positions in the first 11 laps of the night.
The second caution waved on lap 13 for a spin in turn two. "The truck is really neutral," Compton said. "Backing up your entry into the corner seems to be really helping," coached Frazier who elected not to pit during the caution. The No. 4 Tim Short Dodge restarted in 14th position.
Another caution came out on lap 22 due to fluid on the track and Compton hit pit road for service. The No. 4 Dodge Racing Team jumped into action changing all four tires and adding fuel. He restarted in 25th spot.
Not long after the restart Compton radioed in, "This set of tires is tighter than the last set," while running 20th on lap 51.
Two laps later an accident in turn three brought out another caution. Frazier made the call to bring Compton down pit road for fuel only. "Taking fuel only should free you back up," he said as the No. 4 Tim Short Dodge came down pit road. The race was red flagged following the pit stop as the track workers fixed the safer barrier that was damaged during the accident. Compton restarted in ninth spot once the race was back underway.
20 laps later Compton was running 10th despite the changes in truck’s handling. "I am loose on entrance and a little snug in the center," said Compton while under the fifth caution of the night.
On lap 86 Frazier radioed into Compton to turn off his right rear bead blower which would help tighten him up entering the corners. The condition worsened and Compton fell to 17th position.
Debris on the track brought out the sixth caution on lap 115. Compton hit pit road for right side tires, one and a half cans of fuel. "We need track position more than we need tires right now," said Frazier when the caution came out. Compton restarted in 9th position.
After starting the event in 28th spot, Compton and crew worked hard to keep the No. 4 Tim Short Dodge handling for the veteran driver for the entire 150 laps. Compton came home in 12th position.
