Milwaukee, WI. (June 23, 2008) – After posting the seventh fastest time in the final practice at the Milwaukee Mile on Friday afternoon Dodge Driver Stacy Compton struggled with a loose truck during qualifying. The crew made several adjustments to tighten the Dodge Ram up before the start of the race, but that proved to be too much for the Bryden Dodge once the race started. A tight race truck and a penalty on pit road for speeding resulted in Compton’s 24th place finish.
The No. 4 Dodge Ram Race Recap
• After posting the seventh fastest time in the final practice Compton headed into qualifying with renewed confidence. Just as qualifying started, clouds moved in making the conditions much different than in the earlier practice. Compton’s Dodge Ram was loose. He qualified 25th on Friday afternoon by posting a speed of 117.643 mph. • Once the race started Compton radioed in, “I am tight in the center and free on exit,” he said while running in 24th position. The first caution waved on lap nine for a spin in turn four. Compton and Crew Chief Bryant Frazier elected not to pit. • By lap 37 Compton who was running in 23rd spot, was still struggling with the tight condition. “Keep doing what you are doing on the track,” said Crew Chief Bryant Frazier. “You are picking up speed every lap.” • Unfortunately that speed was not fast enough to hold off the charging leader. Compton fell one lap down on lap 49 while running 22nd. • On lap 71 Compton hit pit road for a scheduled green flag pit stop. The Dodge Racing Team jumped into action changing all four tires, adding fuel and making an air pressure, wedge and jack bolt adjustment. Compton was caught speeding while exiting pit road and had to come back in for a stop and go penalty. He returned to the track in 29th position now two laps down. • Then the caution came out on lap 79 for a stalled truck before the leader had pitted which trapped Compton and several others down another lap. Compton used the time to pit for fuel and returned to the track in 30th spot. • Another caution followed on lap 96 for debris. Compton and crew used it as an opportunity to work on the No. 4 Dodge. They jumped into action changing all four tires, adding fuel and making a track bar and wedge adjustment to aid the tight-in and loose-exit condition. • By lap 130 Compton had worked his way into the 27th position. Rain clouds were appearing off of turn four as the wind picked up at the track. • Rain drops started falling one lap later and continued to get stronger as the laps ticked off. The caution followed on lap 146 for weather as extreme lighting joined the rain drops. Compton came down pit road under the caution and received four fresh tires and fuel. NASCAR then red flagged the event until the weather passed. • Once the race restarted Compton used the fresh rubber to gain three spots in the final laps of the event. He finished 24th three laps down to the leader.
Johnny Benson won the Camping World RV Sales 200. Matt Crafton finished second, Landon Cassill, Erik Darnell and Todd Bodine followed in the top five.
