The Milwaukee Mile
Milwaukee, WI. (June 23, 2008) – When Dodge Driver Dennis Setzer gets knocked down he always comes back with a vengeance, at least on the race track that is. Once again Setzer overcame numerous road blocks during the 200-lap NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at The Milwaukee Mile Friday night to score a hard fought 11th place finish. It was the team’s sixth top-15 finish of the season.
The No. 18 Dodge Ram Race Recap
• Setzer qualified in the 18th position by posting a lap of 119.004mph. Once the race got underway Setzer radioed in, “It is chattering the tires really bad.”
• By lap 16 the No. 18 Dodge was terribly loose and losing positions on the track. Setzer was running 20th when Crew Chief Marcus Richmond radioed to him, “We are going to fix you up on the next pit stop,” he said. “Just hang in there a little longer.”
• As the laps ticked off Setzer was able to adjust his driving line to the loose condition and moved all the way up to 15th spot before he hit pit road for a green flag pit stop on lap 75. The Dodge Racing Team changed all four tires and added fuel.
• Just two laps after Setzer returned to the track the caution flew for a stalled truck. The leader had not pitted yet, which trapped Setzer on the tail end of the lead lap. He restarted in 17th position just in front of the leader.
• On lap 90 Setzer fell one lap down to the leader while running 16th, but stayed within striking distance in case the next caution waved in a few laps.
• On lap 100 the fourth caution waved for a multi-truck accident in turn four. Setzer stayed out and restarted 11th.
• By lap 115 Setzer was the fastest truck on the track as rain clouds moved into the area.
• On lap 146 the fifth caution waved due to rain drops and lighting. Richmond called Setzer down pit road for service. “I don’t think it is going to rain long,” said Richmond while under caution. “Let’s come in and get four fresh tires and fuel.” The Dodge Racing team changed all four tires and added fuel. He returned to the track in 10th place.
• On lap 149 NASCAR brought the competitors down pit road due to rain and the event was red flagged. Once the rain passed the race was restarted.
• In the final laps of the event Setzer thought he might have a loose wheel and that his brakes were gone. “I can’t take a chance on brining you in and losing all that track position,” said Richmond. “We have to just stay out on this one.”
• Setzer did just that and brought home an 11th place finish. It was the team’s sixth top-15 finish.
Johnny Benson won the Camping World RV Sales 200. Matt Crafton finished second, Landon Cassill, Erik Darnell and Todd Bodine followed in the top five.
