Dennis Setzer No.18 Dodge Sam’s Town 400 Texas Motor Speedway
Ft. Worth, TX. (June 8, 2008) – Dodge Driver Dennis Setzer started the Sam’s Town 400 at Texas Motor Speedway in the ninth position, his second-best qualifying effort this season. But Setzer encountered problems just after the drop of the green flag when his window net fell down on lap two. The lost of the window net caused the No. 18 Dodge to be extremely loose and Setzer fell quickly to the 29th position. NASCAR penalized the team for the incident and he was forced down pit road on lap 24 for a stop and go penalty. Setzer struggled in the early laps of the event to overcome the penalty. He eventually fell two laps down to the leader before the lucky dog award turned the night around. After running in the 27th position for much of the night a caution on lap 114 for a spin on the backstretch allowed Setzer to inherit the lucky dog award and receive one of his two laps back. Thankfully another caution waved right after the restart on lap 121. Setzer once again received the lucky dog award and returned to the lead lap. In the final 46 laps Setzer was on a mission and passed 11 competitors to finish the night in 11th place.
The No. 18 Dodge Ram Race Recap
• Setzer qualified in the ninth by posting a lap of 175.450mph on Thursday afternoon. It was his second best qualifying effort of the season. • Following the drop of the green flag Setzer’s window net fell down on lap two. The lost of the net made the No. 18 Dodge extremely loose. Setzer lost substantial track position and dropped to 29th spot. • On lap 24 NASCAR forced Setzer to pit road to fix the window net issue and do his penalty. He returned to the track one lap down in 31st position. • “It has absolutely no grip,” radioed in Setzer on lap 52 while running in the 30th position. • By lap 65 Setzer, running 29th, had fallen another lap down despite pitting for four fresh tires and a track bar adjustment. • The fourth of eight cautions waved on lap 114 for a spin on the backstretch. Because there were no trucks one lap down Setzer was able to receive the lucky dog award and get back one of his two laps. While under the caution he hit pit road for four fresh tires and fuel. He restarted 26th. • Several laps later another caution came out on lap 121 for an accident in turn one. Once again Setzer received the lucky dog award and returned to the lead lap. Crew Chief Marcus Richmond brought the No.18 Dodge down pit road for four sticker tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. He restarted in 22nd on lap 126. • After the restart was underway Setzer used the inside line and outside line to make up as much track position as he could. In the final 46 laps Setzer passed 11 competitors to take home 11th place. Setzer currently sits 11th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings.
Ron Hornaday Jr. won the Sam’s Town 400. Kyle Busch finished second, Johnny Benson., Jack Sprague and Todd Bodine followed in the top five.
