News and Notes:
The Virginia native will be making his 16th NASCAR start at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) this weekend. He has three Nextel Cup, seven Nationwide and five Craftsman Truck Series starts to his name. He has scored one top-five and three top-10 finishes in those five truck starts.
The No. 4 Dodge will be sporting the Blake Fulenwider Dodge paint scheme this weekend. The Blake Fulenwider Dodge dealership was the outstanding sales performer selling more Dodge vehicles than all the surrounding dealerships thus winning the prize to sponsor Compton's No. 4 Dodge Ram this weekend.
Compton will pilot “Swinger” this weekend at TMS. He drove this particular chassis last month at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. A malfunction on pit road late in the race resulted in a 28th place finish.
Burn Out in Memphis: “On Tuesday we went to Memphis for a pre-race media tour. Dennis (Setzer) and I got the chance to drive the media around the oval in Vipers. All of these things start off kind of slow. We took one media person out, drove a few laps and brought them back in smiling. Then Dennis leaves the garage area and has to step it up a notch. So he peels off, well I can’t let that be the last laugh. So I leave the garage and do a burn out. The next thing you know every time we leave the garage area we are spinning the tires, doing burn outs in the garage area and then making hot laps around the track. We ended the day racing each other on the track, and when we stopped the cars they had blisters on the tires. The competitor in us just can’t leave well enough alone, and we are even teammates!”
Drag Racing: “After we were done on the oval, we took the media people to the drag strip and ran as hard as we could down the strip with a Dodge Caliber. It was a lot of fun. They had the towers going and gave us slips on how we performed. It took a couple of times to get warmed up, but we eventually got the hang of it. I had a great time, we were both all smiles. Doing things like that make appearances a lot of fun, and gives us the chance to get to know the people who write things about us. So many times we are in and out of these markets before we know it, so the opportunity to get to know the locals doesn’t happen until days like today. I love to watch things like that and to be a part of it was a new experience.”
