Stacy Compton
No. 4 Crown Dodge of Fayetteville
The NC Education Lottery 200
Lowe’s Motor Speedway
Concord, NC. (May 19, 2008) –Dodge driver Stacy Compton is in search of some good luck, but has been unable to find any in recent weeks. The running of the NC Education Lottery 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway was no different. After starting the sixth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event of the season in 17th spot Compton was running 20th when a debacle happened on pit road. While receiving four fresh tires and fuel during a scheduled green flag pit stop the jack handle came loose and dropped the jack before service was completed on the No. 4 Crown Dodge. Compton was forced to come back in the pits for service again. Despite the pit road trouble he was able to finish the event in the 28th position.
The No. 4 Dodge Ram Race Recap
• Compton qualified 17th Friday afternoon with a time of 173.238 mph. It was his fifth top-20 qualifying effort of the season.
• Once the race started Compton knew he had a good truck underneath him. “The truck is really stable,” said Compton. “I just need to get out of traffic as soon as I can.”
• The first caution waved on lap nine for a wreck on the front stretch. Compton came down pit road to the attention of the Dodge Racing Team. They changed two tires, added fuel and sent Compton on his way in 18th position.
• By lap 60 Compton was gaining ground on the competitors in front of him. “You are faster than the guys in front of you,” coached Crew Chief Bryant Frazer. “Go and get them.”
• Several laps later Compton was unable to hold off charging leader Kyle Busch and fell one lap down while running in the 21st spot.
• Due to a long green flag run Compton came down pit road on lap 81 for a scheduled pit stop. The Dodge Racing team jumped into action changing all four tires, added fuel and made a track bar and air pressure adjustment. Unfortunately, the jack handle came loose letting the jack down before the tire changer was finished. Compton thought the pit stop was over and sped off with loose lug nuts. He was forced to come back down pit road for service again. He returned to the track in 31st position several laps down.
• For the rest of the night Compton struggled with a tight race truck. He was able to salvage a 28th finishing position.
Matt Crafton won the NC Lottery 200. Chad McCumbee finished second, Brendan Gaughan, Erik Darnell and Rick Crawford followed in the top five.
