The NC Education Lottery 200
Lowe’s Motor Speedway
Concord, NC. (May 19, 2008) – Once again Dodge Driver Dennis Setzer showed off his veteran driving skills during the running of the sixth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of the season at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. After starting 28th and struggling with a tight race truck in the opening laps of the event Setzer worked his way into the top 10 by lap 108. Then coming out of turn four several laps later the No. 18 Dodge got loose and started spinning. Setzer was able to spin the truck completely around without hitting anything while dodging the outside wall and several competitors as they were speeding behind him. After hitting pit road for four fresh tires Setzer made a charge for the front finishing in the seventh position. It was the team’s second top-10 finish of the season.
The No. 18 Dodge Ram Race Recap
• Setzer qualified in the 28th position Friday afternoon before the running of the NC Education Lottery 200.
• It only took Setzer a few laps into the event to tell Crew Chief Marcus Richmond, “It is really tight on entry into the corner,” he said while running under the first caution in the 27th position. Richmond called Setzer to pit road for fuel only and add one round in the right rear to help with the tight condition.
• The second caution waved several laps later on lap 22 for debris and Setzer hit pit road once again. This time Richmond called for fuel only and one round out of the track bar. Setzer restarted in 14th position.
• On lap 58 while running in the 21st spot Setzer radioed into the crew, “I am doing all I can right now with the truck.” Richmond encouraged him to hang in there and they will continue to adjust it on each stop.
• Just 10 laps later Setzer was unable to hold off the leader Kyle Busch during a long green flag run and fell one lap down running 19th.
• Several laps later on lap 83 Setzer hit pit road for a scheduled green flag pit stop. The Dodge Racing Team changed right side tires and added fuel to the No. 18 Tahoe Dodge. He restarted 14th.
• The third caution waved on lap 100 for debris. Setzer came down pit road again for service. The Dodge Racing Team changed left side tires and added fuel. He gained two spots on pit road and restarted in the 12th position.
• Setzer had worked his way all the way up to the top 10 when he lost control entering turn four and immediately starting spinning. Setzer, using his veteran driving skills, with the help from his spotter was able to bring the spinning Dodge truck to a stop without hitting a single thing. After hitting pit road for four fresh tires and fuel Setzer restarted in the 12th position, only two spots behind where he was running before the spin.
• From that moment on Setzer was unstoppable picking off the competitors in front of him. He picked up five positions in 18 laps to finish in seventh place.
• It was Setzer’s second top-10 finish of the season. He currently sits fifth in the NCTS point standings just 57 points out of first place.
Matt Crafton won the NC Lottery 200. Chad McCumbee finished second, Brendan Gaughan, Erik Darnell and Rick Crawford followed in the top five.
