Mike Bliss will pilot the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge Wednesday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. It will be Bliss’ sixth start in the Bobby Hamilton Racing Dodge.
He will be making his 16th start at BMS. He has three NASCAR Nextel Cup Series starts, six NASCAR Busch Series starts and seven NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts at the newly paved 0.53 mile oval.
Bliss will pilot “Angel” in the O’Reilly 200. This particular chassis went to victory lane at Dover in 2004 with Chad Chaffin behind the wheel.
What’s In a Name: The chassis “Angel” was considered by the BHR team as a less than stellar chassis for competition many years ago. Therefore the race team, who all agreed the chassis was too temperamental, pushed the chassis in the corner of the old BHR race shop and never touched. Then one day one of the crew members started tweaking on the body to test new ideas. Then the team took it to a race, finished very well and all left joking that it was the “Angel” that saved us. It proved to be worthy once again when it visited victory lane in 2004. To this day, it continues to be a favorite short track truck at BHR.

Bliss on Action-Packed Bristol: “Bristol is one of the more exciting race tracks to drive that we race on. The race is always action-packed which can make it both a headache and a lot of fun to drive. You have to stay really focused during the course of the race. It is easy to let yourself get sidetracked and mad at someone because they are holding you up or not giving you enough room, but the moment you let yourself do that, you lose momentum. I raced the cup car there in March. It was the first Car of Tomorrow race and we had to qualify on time. Now we are going back there again on a new surface. So, Bristol is full of excitement. I am looking forward to going back there in a truck and banging around for 200 laps.”
