Last November, 19 year-old Dodge Development Driver Chase Miller stood in the infield of Texas Motor Speedway before climbing into his No. 4 Dodge for only the fifth time in his life for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race wondering what the commotion around him was about. A large crowd had formed around the night’s grand marshal, NFL superstar Emmett Smith. Miller, who was waiting on his turn to be announced on stage, turned to those around him to ask what was going on. When told who the celebrity standing beside him was, Miller’s cohorts were astonished that he had no idea he even played football.
“My whole entire life has been about racing,” said Miller. “I never had an interest in any other sport growing up. I have people ask me all the time my opinion on other sports or celebrities. I know they think I am crazy when I tell them I have no idea what they are talking about, but it’s the truth. If it doesn’t have at least two wheels and go fast then I don’t care.”
Starting at the tender age of five, the 20 year-old Georgia native has a plethora of racing experience in motorcycles, four-wheelers, go-karts, Legend cars, Allison Legacy cars and Late Models. During this time Miller has won multiple races, championships and rookie-of-the-year awards.
This multi-faceted experience led Miller toward his racing dream when he got a call from Dodge Motorsports to field their ARCA ReMax Series car in six races. In only his second start and the first time he ever laid eyes on the two-and-a half mile triangular shaped superspeedway, Miller scored his first victory at Pocono Raceway. He continued his impressive start by winning the pole at Gateway International Raceway only one month later.
Then in September Miller got the opportunity of a lifetime. Impressed by the young gun’s talents so far, Dodge Motorsports offered Miller the No. 4 Dodge ride fielded by 2004 NCTS Championship team Bobby Hamilton Racing. Miller competed in the final eight NCTS events last season scoring his first top 10 in only his fourth start.
“I have to be one of the most fortunate people in the world to get this opportunity with BHR and the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports team,” Miller said. Getting a break is so tough in this sport and this is the kind of opportunity that all racers dream about. Dodge Motorsports has made so much possible for me. This time last year I didn't know what I was going to be doing and this year I will be driving for BHR, with Ken Schrader, in the Fastenal No. 18 Dodge, as my teammate and Dodge Motorsports as my sponsor. You can’t get any better than that. BHR and Dodge are really working hard to put us on top of our game for the 2007 season. Ken Schrader has so much experience in so many different situations. I believe that I will be able to learn a lot from him. Having Bobby Hamilton as an owner last season was a great experience and one I will never forget. He truly enjoyed seeing others develop and become successful. He didn’t always say a lot, but you always paid attention to what he did say, because, it was important. Now, it is our turn to show others what he taught us. It’s a job I know we are up for.”
