Somewhere along the final stretch of the 2006 season Chase Miller picked up a heavy dose of bad luck. For the third straight week in a row Miller found trouble in the opening laps of the event. The Dodge development driver qualified the No. 4 Dodge in the 26th position during his first visit to Phoenix International Raceway. By lap six Miller had worked his way into the 21st position when disaster struck. Veteran competitor Jack Sprague slammed into the back of the No. 4 Dodge sending Miller straight into the wall in turn one. Miller was taken to the infield care center and released. The No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Racing Team was unable to repair the extensive damage and was forced to retire from the event. Miller finished in the 35th position.
“Thank goodness Phoenix International Raceway has soft walls,” said Miller after the race. “That is the hardest hit I have taken so far. I am not sure what Jack Sprague was thinking. It was the sixth lap of the race. He drove into the corner extremely hard and just turned me straight into the wall. There was nothing I could do. The truck is ruined and that stinks for the guys. We will just head to Homestead and hopefully leave with our best finish of the season.”
Johnny Benson won the Casino Arizona 150 before an estimated crowd of 30,000, posting his fifth career NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory. Mark Martin, Mike Skinner, Todd Bodine and Matt Crafton rounded out the top five finishers.
