In his first ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start Chase Miller proved he can over come adversity and make the best of any situation. Miller started off the weekend by qualifying 26th for the 18th race of the 2006 season. In the opening laps of the Sylvania 200 at New Hampshire International Raceway Miller proved he could race with the “big boys” working his way into the 19th position by lap 20. Things continued to head in the right direction for Miller and the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Team and by lap 70 Miller was running 15th behind teammate Bobby Hamilton Jr. Two laps later the fun stopped when Miller was racing three wide with Brendan Gaughan and Hamilton Jr. and Gaughan lost control of his truck and slammed the wall. The force from the impact caused Gaughan to come back into race traffic and hit Miller’s right front fender, causing substantial damage to the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge. The Dodge Motorsports Racing Team jumped into auction repairing the right front damage and getting Miller back on track. Miller would battle back from a lap down to finish in the 17th position in his first ever NCTS start.
No. 4 Dodge Race Review
• Miller qualified in the 26th position Saturday morning for his first NCTS event.
• It did not take him long to make his way toward the front. By lap 22 Miller was running in the 19th position. He radioed in, “I am tight in the center.”
• The second of 12 cautions came out on lap 45 for debris. Crew Chief Marcus Richmond called Miller down pit road for a track bar adjustment. The Dodge Racing Team cranked out a fast pit stop changing all four tires, adding fuel and going up one round on the track bar to fix the tight condition. Miller restarted in the 19th position.
• “The adjustment really helped the truck,” said Miller on lap 53 while running in the 18th position. “It feels great.”
• By lap 70 Miller had worked his way into the top 15 and that is where the fun stopped. Two laps later Miller was racing three wide with Brendan Gaughan and teammate Bobby Hamilton Jr. when Gaughan lost control of his truck and slammed the wall. The force from the impact caused Gaughan to come back into race traffic and hit Miller’s right front fender, causing substantial damage to the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge.
• Miller came down pit road several times to repair the damage under the fifth caution. The Dodge Racing Team cut away the damage sheet metal with the help of hammers and saws and replaced the right side nose. On lap 80 Miller restarted in the 28th position one lap down.
• Over the next 50 laps Miller worked his way into the 24th position, still one lap down, battling an extremely tight truck.
• Miller had put himself in position to be awarded the “Lucky Dog” under the next caution. His wish came true on lap 132 when the 9th caution came out for debris. He came down pit road for tires, fuel and another adjustment to help with the tight condition.
• Miller was able to work his way into the 19th position over the next 25 laps. Under the 10th caution on lap 160 he came back down pit road for another adjustment and fuel. He restarted in the 17th position.
• Miller ran has high as 15th place in the closing laps of the Sylvania 200. The tight condition never went away and resulted in a 17th finishing position.
