Dodge Driver Timothy Peters overcame adversity on pit road to score his sixth top-15 finish of the season. A slow pit stop under the third caution due to a malfunctioning pit gun and followed by a bad set of tires put Peters one lap down by lap 140. After a sequence of several cautions Peters was able to get his lap back and pass seven trucks in the final 40 laps to finish in the 15th position in the Power Stroke Diesel 200.

• Peters qualified for the event in 20th place on Friday afternoon. • On lap 21 Peters radioed in he thought he had a left rear tire going down. The caution came out several laps later allowing Spotter Danny Gill to get a better look at the left rear tire. It was determined the tire was not flat and just had some rubber build up. The team elected to stay out under the caution. He restarted in the 18th position. • By lap 40 Peters was the fastest truck on the track even though he was a tick tight. The third caution came out on lap 60. Peters came down pit road to the attention of the Dodge Racing Team. They changed all four tires, added fuel and made a track bar adjustment to help the tight condition. An air gun malfunctioned on the right front tire during the stop causing Peters to lose several positions on pit road. • “This set of tires is not helping me any,” said Peters soon after the pit stop. Over the next 20 laps Peters would battle an extreme tight race truck and lose substantial track position before going one lap down to the leader.
• The fourth caution waved on lap 80 and Peters came down pit road for a new set of tires. The Dodge Racing Team changed right side tires and sent Peters back out on the track to keep him from going one lap down. He came back down pit road the following lap to change left side tires and make a track bar adjustment. He restarted in the 32nd position. • Peters worked his way into the 28th position when the fifth caution waved on lap 128. Peters came down pit road for four tires and fuel. • On lap 156 Peters was running in the 22nd position when the seventh caution waved. Peters received the “lucky dog” and returned to the lead lap. He pitted for a wedge adjustment. He restarted in the 22nd position. • Over the final 40 laps Peters passed seven trucks to finish the event in the 15th position. It was his sixth Top-15 finish of the season.
Rick Crawford won the Power Stroke Diesel 200 before an estimated crowd of 35,000. Dennis Setzer, Ron Hornaday Jr., David Starr and Mike Bliss completed the top-five. The next stop for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitors is at the Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday August 12th.
