Timothy Peters will be making his second career IRP start this weekend. He finished 28th in last year’s NCTS event after cutting a tire 30 laps into the event. Peters will be driving the Bobby Hamilton Racing chassis “Rocket” this weekend. It will be Peters’ 31st NCTS career start. The last time a Dodge truck visited victory lane at IRP was in 2004. Former Bobby Hamilton Racing Driver Chad Chaffin took the lead in the No. 18 Dodge on the last lap to win his second race that season.

Peters on O’Reilly Raceway Park: “The one thing I love about short track racing is you never know what to expect, or maybe I should say you cannot plan for what might happen next. IRP is very competitive and you will see that in the both practice and qualifying on Friday. It is also a racetrack where pit stops are crucial. My crew guys have been practicing during the off weeks.  This is one race we don’t need trouble on pit road because it is so hard to pass on the track. Being a short track I guarantee there will be a lot of bumping and banging. As a driver you have to prepare yourself mentally for this because at times you may be doing the bumping and or another competitor will be doing it to you. So the goal to winning at IRP is to qualify upfront, have great pit stops and to know when to make your move on the track. My crew guys are the team who was behind Chad Chaffin’s win at IRP in 2004 and they have not let me forget that this past week. Hopefully, I can take them back to victory lane in 2006.”  

Unleaded Fuel: “This past week I did some testing for Dodge. We were trying to see how the engine would react to the unleaded fuel we are required to run at IRP and the following week at Nashville. We had a little bit of engine trouble, but we found the problem and fixed it. I am not sure how the unleaded fuel situation is going to work out. I think it could take several races to figure out. I watched the Busch race at Gateway and they did not seem to have any problems so that is encouraging.”

Off Week Rumblings: “I stayed really busy during the past two off weeks. After the Memphis race I took a couple days off and went back home to spend time with my mom. I don’t get to see her unless she comes to the races so it was great to spend some time with her back home. I did some testing for Dodge at the beginning of the next week. Then this past weekend I headed home to South Boston to run the late model race. Everything was going well in practice on Friday until a local racer pulled out right in front of me on the race track. I was running pretty fast and had no where to go but into him. I was really upset because I killed the car and I wasn’t able to run the race. But our next off weekend is after Nashville so I am going to go back and try again then.
