Peters, Dodge Motorsports Dodge Ram Post 19th Place Finish at Kansas

Timothy Peters and Kansas Speedway were getting along great in their first meeting this weekend in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 until a slick racetrack and worn tires with 25 laps to go spoiled the fun. Peters started the weekend of by qualifying in the 9th  position on Friday evening for his best start of the 2006 season. He backed up the strong qualifying effort running in the top-10 for 127 laps of the 167-lap event. In the end, the worn tires prevented Peters from capitalizing on the strong weekend and the end result was a 19th place finish.

• Peters qualified his No. 4 Dodge in the 9th position early Friday evening. It was his best qualifying effort of the season.
• By lap 25 Peters, running 7th , was the fastest truck on the track. 
• The first caution waved on lap 31 for a spin on the backstretch. Peters radioed in his a tick tight. So, Crew Chief Danny Gill made the call for Peters to come down pit road for four tires, fuel and a round of bite out of the left rear to fix the tight condition. He restarted in the 10th position.
• On lap 43 Peters radioed in, “It is getting off the corner a lot better now.”
• The third caution came out on lap 79 for an accident in turn four. Peters came down pit road to the attention of his Dodge Racing Team. They cranked out a great stop changing all four tires, adding fuel and making an adjustment to the wedge bolt to loosen up the truck. He restarted 11th.
• On lap 93 the field restarted after the fifth caution. Peters went to the high side to block a fast approaching competitor and got in the “marbles” of the racetrack. The move made him lose substantial track position for the next couple of laps.
• 12 laps later the sixth caution came out allowing Peters to gain back some of the track position he lost. Peters came down pit road for two tires only and fuel. He restarted in the 13th position.
• On lap 103, the race was red-flagged due to a vicious wreck on the backstretch by Kelly Sutton. 
• By lap 103 Peters had worked his way to the fifth position, but 50 laps later the Goodyear tires began to give away and he was unable to hang on inside the top-10.
• Peters would finish the race in a disappointing 19th position.

Terry Cook won the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 breaking a 94 race winless streak in front of sun baked and heat scorched crowd of 81,687. Rick Crawford, Marcus Ambrose, Brendan Gaughan and Mike Skinner completed the top-five.
