Peters Hopes to Keep Momentum Rolling In Kansas
06-29-2006 | Mt. Juliet, TN

Timothy Peters will be making his first career Kansas start this weekend. Peters will be driving the Bobby Hamilton Racing chassis “Demon” this weekend at The Kansas Speedway. The O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at The Kansas Speedway will mark Peters’ 28th NCTS career start.Last week’s 6th place run at The Milwaukee Mile was Peters’ first top-10 of the 2006 season.

Timothy Peters on Kansas Speedway: “I did not run Kansas last year so this weekend will be my first start there, but I am pretty confident I will adapt to the track pretty quick. I watched the race last year from the spotter’s stand last year so I am familiar with what line to run on the track. I talked to Bobby Jr. (Hamilton) about it last weekend and he said it reminded him a lot of Chicago. In fact he said the two were almost identical. I recently did some testing for Dodge at Chicago so I hope my laps there will help me this weekend at Kansas. Just like last week I will get to run rookie practice to get some extra laps in. I expect us to be really good once the race starts. Maybe we can get that top five this weekend.”

Summer Heat: “The one thing I remember about Kansas from last year is the heat was through the roof. I watched the race from the spotter’s stand and almost died so I can imagine what it will be like inside the truck. Last year, I did not do a very good job of keeping my body hydrated for each race. I realized you have to start drinking water and PowerAde early in the week not just the weekend of the race. Depending on what day our race is on I try to start drinking lots of water starting on Tuesday or Wednesday. Once I get to the track I make sure I drink lots of PowerAde and Pedalite because it helps replace your electrolytes you tend to lose during practice. Hopefully this weekend won’t be to hot, but if it is I will be ready.”

Momentum: “Last weeks run at Milwaukee was huge for this Dodge Motorsports team. I wish we ran 205 laps there instead of 200 because I know we could have finished in the top five. But I will take a sixth place finish any day the way our season has been going. It is amazing how much a good run can do for team morale. All the guys have been cutting up this week and everyone seems to be enjoying work again. We were all a little down heading into Michigan and this team had a great run there and I am glad we were able to back it up last week in Milwaukee. Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope the monkey is off our back.”
