06-12-2006 | Fort Worth, TX

Timothy Peters battled a wicked loose No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge during Friday night’s Sam’s Town 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Peters was not alone in his battle as all Bobby Hamilton Racing entry’s battled extremely loose race trucks during the night. Peters was able to use the low line around the track to his advantage and finish in the 20th position. He was the highest finishing BHR Dodge.

No. 4 Dodge Texas Race Recap

• Peters qualified in the 28th position for the ninth race of the year.
• On lap 10 Peters radioed in to his crew, “I am loose all over the track. It does not matter what corner. It is really bad.”
• The first caution waved on lap 23 and Peters came down pit road to the attention of the Dodge Racing Team. They pulled off a lightening fast pit stop changing all four tries, adding fuel and making a major track bar adjustment to aid the loose condition.
• By lap 30 Peters climbed his way to the 23rd position. The second caution waved five laps later for debris. The team elected to stay out to gain track position under the caution. He restarted in the 22nd position.
• On lap 50 the third caution waved. Peters came down pit road for fuel, a wedge adjustment and to remove tape from the front grill.
• On lap 84, while running 20th, the leader caught Peters and put him one lap down.
• The fifth caution came out on lap 101 for an accident in turn three. Under caution Peters realized his water gauge was running hot and made the decision to come down pit road. While on pit road the Dodge Racing Team added water to the over heating truck, removed tape from the front grill, added fuel and made another track bar adjustment to fix the loose condition.
• Peters was able to use the lower line on the race truck to keep his truck semi-tight. He was able to run comfortable in the top 25 in the closing laps. The sixth of seven cautions waved on lap 116. Peters came to pit road for the final time. The Dodge Racing Team changed only two tires and made another track bar adjustment to fix the persistent loose condition.
• Despite a tremendously loose truck, Peters was able to work his way to the 20th position.

Todd Bodine won the Sam’s Town 400 in front of an estimated crowd of 52,000 NASCAR enthusiasts. Mike Skinner, Rick Crawford, David Reutimann and Johnny Benson filled out the top five.
