Dodge driver Scott Lagasse Jr. was lighting fast in the opening laps of the AAA Insurance 200 at Dover International Raceway, gaining seven spots in the first 19 laps before getting wicked loose coming off turn two. Lagasse hit the inside wall while passing another competitor for the 12th position. The right front damage that he sustained forced the No. 04 Hemi Dodge behind the wall for 13 laps. Lagasse Jr. was able to return to the track and salvage a 35th place finish in the seventh NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ event of the season.
No. 04 Hemi Dodge Dover Race Recap
• Lagasse qualified in the 20th starting position Friday morning at the famous Monster Mile.
• By lap 19 Lagasse had worked his way up to the 13th position, passing anything he came to on the race track with little effort. Crew Chief Randy Seals notified Lagasse he was the fastest truck on the race track.
• On the next lap Lagasse was in the process of passing the 12th place competitor when he got loose losing control of the No. 04 Hemi Dodge hitting the inside wall. He went behind the wall to the attention of the Hemi Dodge Racing Team.
• “Guys, I am sorry she just got wicked loose on me,” said Lagasse while driving behind the wall. After repairing severe right front fender damage, front grill damage and left rear sheet metal damage Lagasse returned to the track, 13 laps down, on lap 32 in the 36th position.
• Lagasse noticed immediately that he smelled a tire rubbing and came back down pit road for service. The Hemi Dodge Racing Team pulled away the fender on the right front and made the proper adjustments to tighten up the truck.
• The second caution waved on lap 63. Lagasse came down pit road for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment to aide the very loose condition. He restarted in 36th position.
• On lap 98 the third caution came out and Lagasse notified his crew he was coming down pit road and for them to tighten him up more. The Hemi Dodge Racing Team lowered the track bar as low as it would go to help fix the loose condition. Lagasse was mired in the 36th position.
• When Kelly Sutton brought out the fourth and final caution flag of the afternoon on lap 159, Lagasse came down pit road for four tires and fuel. Sutton was forced to retire from the event allowing Lagasse to take over the 35th position.
• Lagasse finished in the 35th position. The wreck dropped the No. 04 Hemi Dodge two spots in the NCTS Owner Points. He currently sits 33rd.
