Does being aggressive help at Dover? “You can’t really say that aggressively charging the corners is a key to winning because Kyle Petty used to own that place, and he’s not a real hard charger. I think whoever can run their car the freest and turn through the center is going to be the one to beat. They can get it pointed early enough that it runs off the corners. There guys who are tight and really pushing up in the middle from charging the corner too hard. You have to be aggressive on the throttle there; you have to be aggressive on the wheel – that’s what will reward somebody. But as far as getting in the hardest, I don’t think that will work. Ryan Newman is a finesse kind of driver, and he wins there. So, I’m going with the theory that you have to keep the truck turning through the middle. If you do that and forget about the entry, you’ll be fast on the straightaway.” Concrete versus Asphalt?: “Asphalt is more temperamental because it changes so much, it’s hard to keep up with. With concrete, once the rubber gets built up, then it’s about the same from there on for the rest of the day. So if you can get it past that point, adjust it, and you’re fast then, you’re going to be fast the rest of the day. I think you hit the setup right when you get there, and then you fine tune it. One thing you deal with on the Cup and Busch side – you have the Cup guys come in, and they have so many years of experience with the setups, they just know the right one. I think on concrete, it’s just whoever can get the setup right and be consistent. To me, that opens it up to being a level playing field.”
