Peters, Dodge Motorsports Team Ready for Challenge at Charlotte
05-16-2006 Mt. Juliet, TN

Printable Version

Timothy Peters will be making his second Lowe’s Motor Speedway start this weekend. In 2005 he started 22nd and finished in the 32nd position. Peters will be driving the BHR chassis “Duster” this weekend at LMS. “Duster” previously ran at California and Atlanta in 2006 with Peters behind the wheel. The Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway will mark Peters’ 22nd NCTS career start.

Timothy Peters’ impression of Lowe’s Motor Speedway: “Last year we had a really good truck at Charlotte and we got swept up in someone else’s problem so it ended our night early. I like the racetrack because it is fast and it is even faster now. We are fortunate to have a day to test and that will be beneficial to our Dodge Motorsports team because we have to qualify on time.”

Intermediate track emphasis: “As a team we have done a lot of work to improve our performance on the mile and a half racetracks. We recently went to Pocono to test and try and improve on the bigger tracks. We were really fast up there right out of the box. Every person on this team has worked as hard as possible to get us where we need to be on the big tracks and hopefully all that hard work will pay off this weekend at Lowe’s. Plus as a team we have more experience and I have more experience and experience always helps.”

Strategy for Lowe’s Motor Speedway: “We know what we are facing with the owners points, we have to make the race on time. There is extra pressure there but not something this team can’t overcome, I have confidence in them and in myself. As for the race we can’t just go out and not be aggressive because anything can happen, like it did at Gateway. We were just biding our time with our Dodge Motorsports Dodge and got taken out 10 laps in. We need to be ready to race as hard as we need to and be competitive as we can from the start.”

Crew Chief Kip McCord on the Quaker Steak and Lube 200: “I feel like I am sitting in a pot of boiling water right now. This whole team knows this situation we are in with qualifying. The really frustrating part of it is that we have had five races this year and we had good trucks in most of them but circumstances beyond our control have landed us in this situation. At Gateway for instance we had a great truck and 10 laps in we are in the wall through no effort of our own. Even though we have to qualify on time to make the race at Charlotte we cannot afford to focus solely on a qualifying set up. We have to get the truck driving good for Timothy. If the truck drives good then we will qualify good. From the reports I have heard through testing at Charlotte the track is really smooth. The chassis have seemed to go a little to the tight side so we will learn a lot on the test day on Thursday. The tires seem to last all day. It may be a situation in which we qualify on 30 lap scuffed tires. We will stay focused on qualifying but it is very important to have a really good solid truck that will drive well during the race.”
