Peters Ready for Martinsville Return
03-28-2006 Mt. Juliet, TN

Printable Version

¡ñ Timothy Peters will make his third Martinsville Speedway NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start in the Kroger 250 on Saturday April 1st piloting the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Ram prepared by Bobby Hamilton Racing.
¡ñ Peters made his first ever NCTS start at Martinsville in the spring event one year ago, starting 25th and finishing 18th.
¡ñ In his second Martinsville start last fall Peters qualified 8th and finished 8th, leading 49 laps of the event.
¡ñ Peters also garnered a prestigious late-model win at Martinsville last fall in The Bailey¡¯s 300.
¡ñ This venue also serves as a ¡°hometown¡± track of sorts for Peters. He grew up in nearby Danville, VA and cut his teeth on various local Virginia and North Carolina short tracks.

Event:               Kroger 250 (250 laps-125 miles)
Location:          Martinsville Speedway (.522-Mile Oval)
Qualifying:         Saturday April 1st 12:05 PM ET
Race Start:         Saturday April 1st 3:15 PM ET Live on Speed

Timothy Peters on going back to Martinsville: ¡°I am just really looking forward to getting back there especially after we ran so good there last fall. We are going to run the same truck there that we ran last fall. We also have the exact same setup so I think we can pick up where we left off in that race with a very competitive Dodge Motorsports Dodge. If we can get a good top ten qualifying position, who knows ¨C we might be a threat to win this thing.¡±

Do your previous races at Martinsville give you confidence going into this event? ¡°It gives me a lot of confidence. We were fortunate to run a lot of laps at Martinsville last year by winning the late-model race, plus we tested the truck there last year.  So I was on the racetrack there for almost a solid two-week period leading up to the fall truck race, and that did help me develop a good feel for Martinsville. I know that we have a good fast setup going in this year. Aerodynamics do not play a huge role on these short tracks ¨C it is all mechanical so we look forward to hitting the track with a lot of momentum and confidence from a team standpoint.¡±

What is the key to getting around and surviving Martinsville?  ¡°Just taking care of your equipment, making sure you are not in the wrong place at the right time, not burning your brakes up and making sure you are in the front instead of the back. Martinsville is a place where it is easy to overdrive it. Sometimes you have to slow yourself down and be smooth, hit your marks in order to gain speed. You have to stay off those curbs because they will definitely slow you down.¡±

Timothy Peters¡¯ thoughts on Owner Bobby Hamilton¡¯s fight against cancer: ¡°The bond among the employees at Bobby Hamilton Racing has grown much stronger. There is not one person in here who doesn¡¯t care deeply about Bobby Hamilton and that is because of what he does for everyone in this shop. Everybody here is going to pull together to help him get through his fight. I think of him as a father, I love him and it breaks my heart to hear that type of news. But I know how tough he is as well.  He is as tough as they come and he will probably deal with it better than a lot of people would. Thankfully he has a quick start on it and he will make a speedy recovery. I can¡¯t wait to have him back at Homestead.¡±

¡ñ Peters will pilot the BHR Chassis ¡°Rocket¡± at Martinsville. Rocket is the same chassis Peters drove to an 8th place finish at the Virginia half-mile track last fall.

¡ñ Timothy Peters is currently 19th in the NCTS driver¡¯s standings 107 points out of the top ten.
