No. 04 Bailey's Dodge Bobby Hamilton Las Vegas Race Review
09-21-2005 Mt. Juliet, TN

Adding Danny Gill to BHR Roster: “Danny Gill was released from PPI on Monday and I scooped him right up for BHR.  I recommended him there to work with my kid and that shows how much faith I have in him.  He is being added to our roster to be extra hands for the engineering guys, not as a crew chief or to take anyone’s position.  I know he has a ton of talent and I have always believed in Danny’s ability.  He has worked for me in the past and we seemed to run really well together.  Danny is a go getter; he demands results and works hard to make strides in racing.  I think he did a tremendous job with Bobby Jr.’s program at PPI, but also don’t think you can make a huge difference in only a few races.  It takes time in this sport and you have to grow on what you are learning.  That takes trials and tribulations and a lot of persistence.”

Back to 1.5-Mile Race tracks: “I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I’m glad to be back to a 1.5-mile race track.  There was a time that the 1.5-mile race tracks were not my strong point, but I feel like now we’ve hit on something at these places and we tend to run well there.  We need a good run.  It’s been several weeks now of bad finishes because of this reason or that reason, but we’ll overcome that too.  We’re a good team – a championship team.  We’ve done it before and can get those wins.  I’m confident in my guys and my trucks; we just needed to get back to the basics.  These tracks are our strong suit.  The last few we’ve been to have not been my best tracks on the circuit; they weren’t last year and they weren’t this either.  So we’re anxious to see what happens in Las Vegas.”

Event:  Las Vegas 350 (146 laps)
Location: Las Vegas Motor Speedway (1.5-Mile Oval)
Qualifying:      September 24th 6:00 PM EDT
Race Start: September 24th 9:00 PM EDT Live on Speed

Notes:
• Hamilton will be racing Tweeter in Las Vegas.  This will be his sixth race (Martinsville - 20th, Dover – 21st, Texas – 17th, Kentucky – 31st and Loudon – 30th) this season in Tweeter.
• Last year Hamilton finished fifth in Las Vegas.  In the beginning of the race he backed off to take care of his motor which was overheating, but still managed to finish the event in the top five.
• Last week after Loudon, the BHR fabrication shop decided to move the front nose on the No. 04 Bailey’s Dodge.  So Tweeter has a new front end for this weekend’s race in Vegas.

String of Bad Luck: “Right now I’m trying some things and we’re seeing different performances on the race track out of my team.  You never know what you should or shouldn’t do until you try it.  The way I figure it is what do we have to lose?  We’re behind on some things, but working on new ideas for next year. It’s all a building process.  The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is tremendous competition and it is evident that you can get behind in this series just like teams did in Cup.  I don’t think that it is a personnel problem or that our trucks are really off.  We’re just exploring to try out new things and learning a lot from them.  We couldn’t do that last year with the championship riding on our shoulders, but we’ve been there, done that now.  Right now our focus is winning more races and building a better program for 2006.”
