No. 04 TECH NET Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodge Bobby Hamilton Phoenix Race Review
11-15-2005 | AVONDALE, AZ
Tech-Net/Law Enforcement Torch Run driver Bobby Hamilton raced in the sixth position most of the evening at Phoenix International Raceway in the Chevy Silverado 150 until the fourth caution came out. Then Hamilton lost several spots in the pits when the jack would not go under the right side of the truck placing him at the back of the field for the restart. Because of the heavy traffic Hamilton was only able to pick up one position and finish the race in 17th.
“I didn’t have enough time to make it up there at the end because we had several cautions in a row taking up all these final laps,” Hamilton said. “It’s frustrating and the finish didn’t show how we raced all night long.”
No. 04 TECH NET/Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodge Recap
• Hamilton qualified his No. 04 TECH NET/Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodge in fourth position to start the 150-lap event under the lights. • In the opening laps, he managed to stay in the sixth position telling his Crew Chief Danny Rollins on lap 14 under the second caution, “It started out a little too loose, but it is coming around now.” • Hamilton pitted under the third caution on lap 42 for a fresh load of Sunoco fuel and four new Goodyear Wranglers. The team adjusted his track bar to aid the loose condition. • The Tennessee native remained in the sixth spot until the fourth caution came out on lap 107. The driver entered the pits and the team realized the right front tire was so low it was only moments away from blowing out on the driver.
• Immediately the crew men picked up the truck to enable the Jackman to place the jack under the truck, but still costing them precious time on pit road. After the four tire stop Hamilton resumed his spot on the track in the 15th position. • Hamilton dodged three more accidents in front of him, but wasn’t able to gain any spots on the track due to lapped down traffic. • Under the seventh and final caution of the night Hamilton brought his truck on to pit road to make sure this right front tire was not going down again. The team realized that something was rubbing the tire from under the hood and put a wheel spacer on Hamilton’s truck. • The savvy driver restarted one-half of a lap behind the field and with only 17 laps remaining he caught the field, and managed to pass Scott Lynch for the 17th position where he finished the race.
“We’ve got one more chance to win a race this year,” Hamilton said. “I’ve done it in Homestead before and we tested there a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully we’ll end the season how we started this year…in victory lane.”
Todd Bodine won the Chevy Silverado 150, making back-to-back wins. Ron Hornaday, Johnny Benson, Rick Crawford and Dennis Setzer followed in the top five.
