No. 4 Bailey's Dodge Timothy Peters IRP Race Review
08-08-2005 | Clermont, IN
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year candidate Timothy Peters was left singing the familiar refrain, “If it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all,” after Friday night’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Peters cut a tire on his No. 4 Bailey’s Dodge just 13 laps into the event forcing him to come down pit road for left side tires and placing three laps down to the leaders.
“We have had good trucks the past few weeks but we just can’t catch a break,” Peters said following the event. “We just cut a tire down just before the first restart and I went down into the corner and it wouldn’t stick. The Bailey’s Dodge felt pretty good at the start and I had high hopes for this race but it just wasn’t our night. I learned a lot about this racetrack for next year so hopefully when we come back here I can use that experience in a positive way.”
No. 04 Bailey’s Dodge Power Stroke Diesel Race Recap
• Peters started the race in the 20th position after rain forced the cancellation of qualifying on IRP’s 0.686 mile oval.
• Mayhem broke out just behind Peters on lap 3 when Brad Keselowski and Jack Bailey tangled on the backstretch.
• On Lap 13 Peters’ left front tire cuts down forcing him to make a green flag pit stop for left side tires. He renters the fray three laps down to the race leader following repairs to his Bailey’s Dodge.
• When John Andretti brings out the second caution flag of the race on lap 23 Peters elects to come down pit road to top off his fuel tank and add cross to his Dodge. Peters exits the pits in the 35th position.
• Shortly after the halfway point in the event Peters radios his crew and informs them that “it feels like my right front is gone.”
• Peters pits under green on lap 107 for four fresh Goodyear Wrangler tires and a full load of Sunoco fuel.
• On lap 170 Peters moves up to the 28th position and narrowly avoids an incident when traffic backs up on the restart on lap 176.
Dennis Setzer won the Power Stroke Diesel 200 before an estimated crowd of 42,500. Todd Kluever, Ron Hornaday Jr., Matt Crafton and Jimmy Spencer rounded out the top five. Peters is currently in the third position in the NCTS Raybestos Rookie of the Year chase behind Kluever and Shige Hattori.
