Bobby Hamilton Jr. returns to the family business for the remainder of the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season driving the No. 18 Fastenal Dodge. The old adage “like father like son,” has never rung truer than it does for Hamilton Jr. and his dad 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Bobby Hamilton. Both have exhibited a competitive streak that has resulted in a combined 20 wins in NASCAR touring series competition. Hamilton Jr. now serves as a stand in for his father who is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and hopes to return to the wheel of the No. 18 Fastenal Dodge for the season’s last event at Homestead. Hamilton Jr. wasted no time in getting acclimated to his new ride, winning the pole and posting a top-10 finish at Martinsville on April 1st.
"I think we both have that burn again because we have so much to prove," Hamilton Jr. said "We need to do what we have to do to get him healthy and for us to get this Fastenal Dodge up where it is challenging for the championship and Timothy is right there with us and we are all battling for a championship. That would be great if we had the BHR trucks battling for a championship. But it is up to us to do it and at the same time we need to have fun doing it and carry on for my dad."
Hamilton Sr. knows that the addition of Bobby Jr. will help his organization. With two additional young guns in the Bobby Hamilton Racing stable, Timothy Peters and Scott Lagasee Jr., the added experience will serve as an invaluable teaching tool.
"Timothy Peters is still learning," Hamilton Sr. says. "He has had some great races. He went to Dover last year and had a great race in only his fourth start. We know there is a lot there but he is still learning. It is the same with Scott Lagasse Jr. If Bobby Jr. is here and there are veterans to learn from, it just speeds up the younger driver's learning curves. Bobby Jr. will bring things to the program that will be a big asset just because he has been around awhile." |
