No. 18 BHR Dodge Chase Montgomery IRP Race Review
08-08-2005 | Sparta, Ky

BHR Driver Chase Montgomery went to school Friday night during the running of the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Montgomery started the event in 30th place after qualifying was washed out due to rain and the field was set by NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owner’s points. He overcame a tight condition and became more accustomed to the many grooves of the short track to bring the No. 18 Dodge home in 21st position.  It is Montgomery’s ninth top 25 finish of the season.

“I learned a lot tonight,” Montgomery said. “Seat time is so important for a driver and I am starting to notice the experience a second full season brings. It has been a challenge for to learn some of the tracks. Not so much how to get around the track, but how to be a better driver on the track. I met with Bobby (Hamilton) before the race and he gave me some great tips. I really used my head during the race and didn’t let the handling of my truck affect my driving style. It was a very productive day for my team.”

• Montgomery started the event in 30th position, but dropped to the rear for an unscheduled pit stop prior to the drop of the green flag. The No. 18 Dodge would not start due to a coil wire malfunction. The problem was fixed on pit road.

• On lap 25 the second caution came out for a spin. Montgomery locked the brakes trying to avoid the wreck and flat spotted the tires. He made the decision to come down pit road for four fresh tires and fuel. The No. 18 Racing Team went up two rounds on the track bar. He restarted in the 29th spot thus getting him out of sequence with the leaders.

• On lap 86, while running in the 24th position, Montgomery goes one lap down to the leader.

• Montgomery came down pit road on lap 158 to the attention of his team. They changed four tries, added fuel and went up two more rounds on the track bar to aid the tight condition.

• The fourth caution came out on lap 171 for a spin. Montgomery is running in the 23rd spot and elects to stay out.

• Montgomery is working his way into the top 20 when the final caution of the night is waved on lap 189 for spin on the backstretch.

• Montgomery brings the No. 18 Dodge home in 21st position. It was the team’s ninth top 25 of the season.

“We keep racking up top 25 finishes each weekend,” Montgomery said. “We are headed in the right direction. My team continues to give me great trucks. I am learning more each time I strap into the truck. I am excited about the upcoming races and look forward to showing what this team is really made of.”

Dennis Setzer won the Power Stroke Diesel 200 Todd Kluever, Ron Hornaday Jr., Matt Crafton and Jimmy Spencer followed in the top five.
