No. 18 TracRac Dodge Chase Montgomery Kentucky Preview
07-06-2005 Las Vegas, NV

Printable Version

For the third consecutive week Bobby Hamilton Racing will partner with TracRac, Inc., manufacturer of professional grade cargo equipment systems for pickup trucks, truck caps and vans, as the primary sponsor on the No. 18 Dodge piloted by Chase Montgomery. The TracRac logos will adorn the No. 18 Dodge in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Built Ford Tough 225 this Saturday at The Kentucky Speedway.

Close to Home:  “Kentucky Speedway is a track I really enjoy racing on and I love racing at night. I have tons of experience there in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. Last year was my first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start on the 1.5-mile track and I feel like I learned a lot to apply this time around. The track seems to fit my driving style. We are taking the same chassis we ran last week and I am very confident in it. We have been running it the past couple of weeks and our finishes continue to improve. Kentucky is close to home for me so I am hoping to bring home a solid finish on Saturday night”

Toughest Driver(s): “I am always being asked who is the toughest competitor in the NCTS and my response is always my boss. Bobby (Hamilton) is one of the toughest competitors if not the toughest competitor the series has ever had. He starts from the back every week, sometimes dead last and yet he winds up finishing in the top five on a regular basis. This past weekend in Kansas he ran mid-pack the entire race. I actually thought we might finish ahead of him and I get out of the truck and notice he finished 12th. I am thinking how did he do that? There is a lot to be learned from that and from him. He never gives up and is always working to make the truck better. He is on top of his game every week no matter where we go. Dennis Setzer is another guy who has stepped up his game lately. He has won two races in the past three weeks and was a contender this past weekend. When those guys step up their game it makes us want to step up ours. It is good for the entire series.”

Tech Talk with Kip McCord: “Decals are an important part of how our trucks look on the race track. Each paint scheme is created with decals. The truck’s number and driver’s name are also decals. This week we are running the TracRac paint scheme. The entire paint scheme came on four large decals. The decals come on sheets of paper with low adhesive. It helps keep the decals straight. The decals themselves contain a higher adhesive that allow them to stick to the truck. It is very important to have a clean surface so we wax the trucks before we put the decals on them. Then you stick the decal to the truck. Using a squeegee I even out the decal and get all of the bubbles out. When the decal is in the proper place you pull the paper backing off and the decal is stuck to the truck. Each week we add the smaller decals you see on the right front tire panel. They do not take very long because they are not large and they are easy to even out. After the race if we are going to change paint schemes then you just pull the decals off. Sometimes you have to use a razor blade to remove them, but that is why we wax the truck beforehand because it helps them come off. It’s a unique process we do several times a season to keep the truck looking good.”
