Kansas City, KS. (April 26, 2008) –
After scoring an emotional victory at Martinsville, Dodge Driver Dennis Setzer and crew went west to Kansas with high hopes of capitalizing on the team’s momentum. Dennis Setzer qualified his No. 18 ShopHemi.com in 20th position but made his way to the front of the pack, climbing as high as fourth position before disaster struck. On lap 73 as Setzer was coming out of turn one he was unable to miss a competitor who spun directly in front of his racing line. The Dodge Racing Team repaired the substantial front end damage and Setzer returned to the track still on the lead lap. Then as he was working his way back through the field a catastrophic blown tire sent Setzer careening into the wall and forced the team to retire from the event, finishing in the 25th spot.
Compton: Bad Luck Strikes Again at Kansas

Kansas City, KS. (April 26, 2008) –
Stacy Compton went to Kansas with the intention of getting rid of the monkey on his back that has been plaguing the Dodge Racing Team since their sixth-place finish in Daytona Beach. Compton started out qualifying 15th for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway, but struggled with a tight race truck in the opening laps of the event. Then on lap 37, bad luck once again struck the driver. As Compton was holding his line though the corner, a competitor jumped to his outside which took the air off his spoiler causing it to jump loose. As the No. 4 Dodge slid sideways Compton showed his veteran driving skills by keeping the truck off the outside retaining wall, but as he slid down the race track to slow the truck down he went directly into the path of another truck thus causing major rear end damage. Despite the mangled truck, Compton was able to salvage a 20th place finish.
Rising Fuel Costs and Kansas City On Compton's Mind

Compton on Fuel and More:
¡§The increase in the price of fuel lately is really hurting our travel budget this season. We have been trying to find ways around it, but so far it has been an uphill battle. The fuel prices are almost triple the amount that they were three years ago, it¡¦s certainly putting a cramp on everything we're doing. Instead of us asking for dollars, we're offering to do things sponsorship-wise if you'll pay for the fuel for the haulers or something similar to that. When you do your budget at the beginning of the year you put fuel in the budget and pay for it, but honestly there is no real way to ¡§know¡¨ how much it will cost with the economy the way it is right now. I am not taking my motor home to Kansas this weekend because I can¡¦t justify spending that much money on it when I can stay at a hotel with the team. It is a battle we are all facing right now no matter what series you are racing in.¡¨
Setzer Says Fuel Maybe the Key to Winning at Kansas

Setzer Says Fuel Could Be the Key in Kansas:
“Kansas is another track we visit that is really at its prime right now. It has been around for several years now and the racing only gets better every time we return. I think heading to Kansas you automatically think about fuel mileage strategy. It is not really a track you think about having a ton of cautions at therefore you have to be prepared for green flag pit stops and the chance of having to save fuel. I have a lot of experience when it comes to saving fuel so I kind of hope it comes down to that on Saturday afternoon.”

Lori Hamilton, wife of the late NASCAR racing legend Bobby Hamilton, is urging Americans to get screened for cancer during the 2008 Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCAW), April 21-27. The week is highlighted by free screenings at more than 150 medical centers nationwide.
Bobby Hamilton, the 2004 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion and a four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner, died in January 2007 from complications of head and neck cancer at the age of 49. According to the American Cancer Society, this year more than 40,000 Americans will be diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck – which include cancers of the oral cavity, larynx and pharynx – and 7,550 will die.

Dodge Driver Stacy Compton fell victim to the Martinsville massacre Saturday afternoon during a caution-filled Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. After starting in 26th position Compton had worked his way up to the 11th spot when a multi-truck wreck happened in front of him. Compton jumped to the inside of the race track with the guidance of spotter, Mark Melling, to miss the spinning trucks. Just as Compton was about to clear the wreckage another truck clipped the tail of the No. 4 Dodge sending him spinning backwards into the mayhem. After going behind the wall to repair the extensive damage Compton returned to the track and salvaged a 35th place finish.

Martinsville and the Champ:
¡§In 1996 I went to Martinsville to attempt the Sprint Cup Series race. I had been to Martinsville in a late model, but never in anything as powerful as a cup car. We qualified in the top 10 which blew a lot of people away. We sent some really good cars home that weekend. After qualifying Mike Wallace came up to me and said, ¡¥I don¡¦t know you and you don¡¦t know me, but you have no idea what you just did today.¡¦ And honestly I didn¡¦t. We ran well in the race, but ended up burning up our brakes about halfway through the event. A couple of weeks later we were in Charlotte and Jeff Gordon came up to me. I wasn¡¦t really sure what he was going to say. I was trying to think if I had done something to him on the track when he said, ¡¥What you did in Martinsville was a neat deal. I hope to see you in the garage area for a long time.¡¦ He will never know what that meant to me. I was a late model driver just trying to make it and he was a Cup Champion taking the time to talk to me. Ever since that day I have been a fan of Jeff Gordon.¡¨

Anytime you can come out of the third race of the season and still be in the top 10 in points is a good thing. It is a great way to start the season. So many times you hope for a good start to the season and bad luck comes your way and ends that. I am excited about being ninth in points, but I am more excited about making the drive to get inside the top five over the coming weeks. I know the average person cannot see how much our team as grown since Daytona, but we have come a long way in a short time. The guys have put in a lot of long hours to make our trucks run more competitively and I think that is just beginning to show. Our team is only going to get better as the races go on. Thanks to Dodge we are spending a substantial amount of time in the wind tunnel and at the eight post shaker rig. The Martinsville test went really well, but we still spent time in the tunnel and at the eight post after the test to make ourselves better. On top of that we tested at the Motor Mile to get some more track time before this weekend. If we can stay out of trouble at Martinsville I think we will be on our way to a solid spot in the top 10 in points.¡¨

Despite Past Success at Martinsville Compton and Setzer Gain Valuable Information in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Test
Martinsville, VA

03-17-2008
Despite running over a combined 9,000 laps of NASCAR competition at Martinsville Speedway, Bobby Hamilton Racing teammates Stacy Compton (No. 4 Dodge) and Dennis Setzer (No. 18 Dodge) realize the importance of the recent NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series test at Martinsville Speedway over the past two days.
"No matter how hard you try you will never be able to master Martinsville Speedway," said Dennis Setzer, who currently sits eighth in the NCTS series point standings. "This Track changes way too much to master it. It used to be a bumpy track several years ago and was really rough to race on. Then they ground the bottom groove which I think was one of the best things they ever decided to do with the track. It helped smooth out the surface and made for great racing. Now the track has been reconfigured again. It has the most grip ever. But just as soon as you think you have this place figured out something else changes."

For Dennis Setzer and his Dodge Racing Team the American Commercial Lines 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway was all about determination. After struggling in the morning practice, Setzer and Crew Chief Marcus Richmond made several changes before qualifying Friday afternoon. The changes proved to be a success when Setzer scored an eighth place starting position. Once the race started he overcame an extremely loose truck in the earlier stages of the event, a pit road penalty late in the race but went on to lead one lap and score a 13th place finish. The top-15 finish moved Setzer to eighth in the NASCAR Driver Point Standings.

Dodge Driver Stacy Compton and team headed to Atlanta Motor Speedway on a mission this past weekend. They wanted to overcome the racing challenges they had been through at the AMS test and the race at California Speedway. After making huge gains in practice Compton qualified 10th for the American Commercial Lines 200. He knew he was on the right track. Despite running in the top 10 most of the night tire trouble in the final laps of the 130 lap event derailed the No. 4 Landmark Dodge from a 10th place finish. Compton finished 19th in the third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event of the season.
Multi-Groove Tracks Make for Better Racing
Martinsville, VA

03-07-2008
“Like California, Atlanta is another track that has improved with age. In today’s world you don’t hear to many people talking about how getting older is a good thing, but for race tracks it is. The older a track’s surface is, the more fun it is for a driver to race on. The grooves are worked in and defined. I can race the top, middle and bottom lanes, which gives me a variety of places to try and make my truck work. My goal is to be able to run on the bottom most of the night, but if one set of tires will run better in the top lane then I have that option.”
Setzer Hopes To Hold It Wide Open at Atlanta This Weekend
Martinsville, VA
|
03-07-2008
“One of the biggest challenges I think we will face at Atlanta is how long we can hold it wide open. Since NASCAR added the restrictor plate to our engines in February to slow us down I have not been able to hold it wide open as often in the past. Usually we only have restrictor plates at Daytona and Talladega, but now we have them for all races. I know you will be able to hold it wide open for qualifying and the first 10 laps or so of the race, but after that I am not sure. It will definitely affect the handling of the trucks at Atlanta. We are use to being able to run wide open there a majority of the race, but I have feeling that will change this weekend.”

California wasn’t as sunny as Melling Dodge driver Dennis Setzer hoped it would be. Tremendous rain showers drenched much of the weekend forcing NASCAR to cancel Craftsman Truck Series qualifying on Friday. Setzer started 13th, but struggled during the race with a loose race truck. At the end of the race a long green flag run forced teams to pit under green with just 20 laps to go. Setzer and crew gambled to stay out as long as they could before hitting pit road. Setzer took over the lead on lap 87 and remained there until he hit pit road on lap 90. After leading the first laps for Dodge this season, he finished 16th.
