Hamilton Ready for Two in a Row
A Habitat for Humanity logo will be on the TV panel of the Square D Dodge this weekend in Martinsville. It will be the first of several times Square D will be teaming up with Habitat for Humanity this season. For the past three years, Square D has been the sole supplier of electrical distribution equipment for Habitat homes. This year they are celebrating its partnership with Habitat and the milestone of supplying the 10,000 homes since 2001 with safe, quality Square D Brand load centers and circuit breakers.
Chaffin Ups the Ante for Martinsville
"We ran really good there in the spring last year. We had a chance to win the race. Dennis Setzer passed us and we raced each other hard, but clean. With three laps to go, we ran out of fuel. So we had a good truck for that race and showed our hand. That just goes to show, if the truck is right then it makes the driver look like the hero. I know my teammate (Bobby Hamilton) will be strong this weekend because he is one of the best on the track. Our trucks are very good and our setups are right on now. So we will be one of the teams to beat."
Chase Montgomery, #8 BHR2 Dodge Preview: MARTINSVILLE
“I am really ready for some short track racing. Although this will be my first time racing at Martinsville, I have done well on short tracks thus far in my career. I have run very well at some legendary tough tracks such as Salem (IN) and Winchester (IN) and I look to have the same success at Martinsville. Plus, Martinsville is such a popular track within NASCAR and that makes it very exciting for me to finally run here this weekend.”
Bobby Hamilton Qualifies for Fifth Starting Position at Matinsville
Square D driver Bobby Hamilton qualified his No. 4 Dodge in the fifth starting position for tomorrow’s Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway with a time of 20.674 seconds. The “short-track shoe” is a definite favorite for the race win, especially since he has not been out of the top ten since the truck unloaded this weekend. On top of that, Hamilton has previously led over an impressive 1500 laps on the .526-mile oval.
Chad Chaffin on Outside Pole for Kroger 250
Dickies driver Chad Chaffin qualified his No. 18 Dodge on the outside pole for tomorrow’s Kroger 250 with a time of 20.615 seconds. This marks the first time in only three races so far this season Chaffin has started from the front row.
Flat Tires Plague Hamilton, Finishes 31st in Martinsville
It didn’t take long for Square D driver Bobby Hamilton to make his way to the lead of the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. Hamilton, who started in fifth position, led for 15 laps and then settled in to cruise amongst the top six trucks. Unfortunately both of the front tires on the Square D Racing Dodge went flat on lap 188 forcing the team to make a green-flag pit stop and fix the problem. As a result Hamilton finished the event in 31st.
Dickies Racing Recap - Kroger 250
Mr. Consistency, Chad Chaffin notched another top-10 finish as he wrestled back from one lap down in the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway to finish the event on the lead lap. The Dickies driver was penalized early in the race and earned his lap back by racing with the leaders before a caution came out late in the event. Chaffin finished the race in 10th position and moved up two spots in the NASCAR Championship points battle to eighth position.

Chase Montgomery Dover Post Race Report
Chase Montgomery feels like he has had a “black cloud” following him so far this year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Chase is coming off a very promising run last week at Dover. Despite a disappointing 29th place finish, the 20-year-old rookie was one of the fastest trucks during the first part of the race. However, he was caught up in another competitor blowing an engine and putting fluid down on the track – sending his #8 DODGE machine hard into the Turn 1 wall and for all purposes ending his day.

Dickies driver Chad Chaffin finished ninth, logging his third top 10 in a row, in the O’Reilly 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Chaffin started the race in the ninth position and by lap 81, he had moved into the eighth spot running times that were as fast as the leaders. The second caution of the day came out on lap 100 and Chaffin asked his Crew Chief Kip McCord to free up his Dickies Dodge on the center of the turns. “I’m loose coming off the corners because I’m so tight in the middle of them,” Chaffin said. “It’s hard to pass right now; nobody is coming off the bottom of the race track. Turn Up the Heat:
“When we go to Kansas it is extremely hot. It is unbearable at times. Last year it was estimated that inside the trucks it was 140 degrees. To endure that for two and one-half hours in a race truck going at the speeds we’re going and staying on your toes the whole time is very tough on a driver. A driver’s mind is working so many areas during the race. It is hard to watch your surroundings, think about pitting, change gears or brake while driving at high rates of speed, especially if you get winded.

Speed Calms Me: “I don’t even realize it when I am running 180 miles per hour around a race track. Speed really calms me. The only time I realize how fast I’m going is when I come up behind or beside someone. Then you feel the speed. I can really tell it when I pass someone on a race track because their truck pulls me around so much. You know how when you drive down the interstate by yourself you can be going 80 mph without ever realizing it? It doesn’t bother you until you go by someone running 70 that you notice a difference. The closeness of the cars or trucks on the race track is what makes it hard to stay calm. When your truck is out there moving around because wind in going over and around it, then you can tell what speed feels like.”
Chad Chaffin Dickies Racing Preview: Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200
Gateway: “Gateway is an unusual track. It looks like it was built to fit the exact available acreage there. They squeezed it in between the drag strip and the interstate. The front and back straightaway is really long, which causes us to shift from third gear to fourth gear when we run through there. It has narrow, sweeping corners. I feel good about our chances at Gateway. The Joey Arrington motors are running great and I know I will have a fast truck. My team has been doing an awesome job of having the truck prepared for race day. We are going with the intention of winning, but I would be thrilled with a top-five finish to keep our streak going.”

We are taking the same truck that we ran at that race in Milwaukee and I am confident in my crew to get the set-up under me and I believe that I will get the hang of the track fairly quickly. For the second time in three weeks, Chase Montgomery earned his career best finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. “Like most drivers, I really like the track at Michigan. It is a fast and wide race track that allows for multiple racing grooves. There is a lot of drafting at the track and it starts to remind you a little of Daytona – which is my favorite place to run so Michigan ranks up there as well. We did some testing last week at Kentucky and I think we found some things that are going to really help us here in the second half of the season at places such as Michigan. Everyone seems to be revived a little with the week off and we are looking forward to a strong run this weekend in the Irish Hills.”

Not Points Racing: “I think most people saw in Gateway when I had a totaled out truck that I’m not points racing. When these teams start doing that, it only causes problems. I’m a firm believer in the fact that if you consistently run well, the points will add up. I want to win the most races this year and the points will fall into place where they may. I’m not out there riding around trying to collect the most points. I want to lead my one lap early to get the extra bonus points for that and then race where I can. If that means lead the most laps, then so be it. We want wins, not top fives or top tens….wins.”
Chad Chaffin Dickies Preview: Michigan
Michigan Preview: “I am confident in our chances this weekend at Michigan. I finished third there last year and the Dickies Dodge continues to be extremely fast off the trailer. We will just make the adjustments needed to ensure a solid run. I would love to see the Dickies Dodge come out of Michigan third in points. I feel third in points is defiantly within our reach in the next few races. This team is going to stay focused and keep doing what we are doing. Michigan is just another week in this business.”

Driving Like an Owner:
“This team doesn’t worry about finishing races. I’m driving as an owner this year. I’m an owner who’s got to sign a sponsorship for next year, and I need TV time to keep that sponsorship. To get TV time we’ve got to win races. We’re not just riding around and being so spooked that we don’t try several things in risk of losing points. I’m just not going to do it. We’re a few races out from looking at points. The closer we get to the end of this year, about six or seven races out; we’re going to look at the points. Then I might be conservative behind the wheel, but then again I think not.”

I thought what if I put this thing in the wall? If that happened it would ruin his whole weekend. I wanted to do a really good job and help him get the truck worked out. Bobby thanked me on TV and that made my day. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of pressure. At the time it was a big deal for me to be able to do that for him.”
Square D Race Recap: Third at IRP
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (Aug. 6, 2004) – On the final lap coming off turn two Square D driver Bobby Hamilton jumped to the outside of Travis Kvapil. The duo battled door-to-door into turn three and as Hamilton came off turn four, he took the position and finished third in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. As a result of his seventh top-five finish this year, Hamilton took the lead in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship.
Dickies Race Recap: Chaffin Wins IRP
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 6, 2004) - Dickies driver Chad Chaffin jumped to the outside of Johnny Sauter coming off turn two of the final lap at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The duo battled down the back straightaway and into turns three and four; and it was Chaffin who scored his second win this season in the Power Stroke Diesel 200. The victory moved Chaffin up two spots in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings. He now sits fourth, 138 out of first.

Chase Montgomery Post Race Report: IRP
The issue of parts failures is an unfortunate part of the racing equation. Chase Montgomery and his #8 DODGE suffered one of those untimely failures on Friday night with a punctured power steering line. The result was a disappointing 32nd place finish in the running of the Power Stroke 200 at the Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Bobby Jr. Shake Down: “We built a brand new in-house truck for Bristol and needed to have a test session with it. Bobby Junior drove a truck for me two years ago in Nashville and finished third. He gave us a lot of great input, so this is a natural fit for us again. Harold Holly and all the Marines guys are coming over to pit it, so we’re excited about the help.”

Inspiration from the Boss: “I wouldn’t have a career at this level if it weren’t for Bobby Hamilton. I’ll be quite frank about it. I’ve been around racing a long time and have won a lot of races over the years. But, at this level, I had kind of peaked out and was probably on the downside. I couldn’t get the really good rides. Bobby and I have known each other for a long time. He gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. He gives me great trucks. He’s an awesome driver. He’s one of the top three or four racing guys in the United States – I’m talking crew chiefs, owners, everything. He eats and breathes racing. He knows it inside and out. Last week we were just good enough to beat him, and if I’m good enough to beat him then I’m good enough to win the race. I gauge my success how I’m running against him. It’s not that I’m just trying to beat the boss, but I know he’s good. He does a great job at setting the bar for the rest of us and if I can get up to him and run there, I’ve got a shot at winning the race.”
Hamilton Jr Racing With BHR this Weekend in Hometown
Racing with Dad: “We have done it once or twice before. I love any opportunity to race with my dad. Every time we race together it is a learning opportunity for me. BHR is running so strong this year and I feel honored to be a part of it for this weekend. I love the fact I can drive my dad’s stuff and bring my Team Marines guys in to pit the car. It reminds me of the Saturday night racing so many of us are familiar with in Nashville.
Chase Montgomery Ready to Bounce Back at Nashville
“The guys have been giving me some very strong trucks and the one this week will be no different. We learned some things a few weeks ago at a Kentucky test session and it really seemed to help us at Michigan and I am sure it will come into play here this week. We had a rare mechanical issue that hurt us last week and each time that has happened this season, this team bounces back in a big way – I am sure we will once again.”
Hamilton Wins at Home!
LEBANON, Tenn., (Aug. 14, 2004) – Since Bobby Hamilton’s push to talk button on his radio, which helps him communicate with his Square D Racing Team, did not work the entire 150 laps of the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway, he serenaded his team in victory lane with the infamous Gibson guitar trophy – one he has longed for in his home town for years. As a result of his series-leading fourth win this year, Hamilton broadened the points lead over second place Dennis Setzer by 84 points in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship.
Chaffin Moves to Third in Points
LEBANON, Tenn., (August 14, 2004) - Dickies driver Chad Chaffin overcame an extremely loose No. 18 Dodge to finish 12th in today’s Toyota Tundra 200. Chaffin’s 13th top-15 of the season moved him up one spot in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings; he now sits third, 196 out of first.

Montgomery Battles for 23rd at Home Track
“Handling Woes Surface For Rookie” - Chase Montgomery enjoyed his week at home and racing in front of family and friends. But the result at the end of the day was not what the 20-year-old rookie was hoping for. While battling the handling of his #8 DODGE, Montgomery soldiered home with a 23rd place finish in the running of the Toyota Tundra 200 at the Nashville Superspeedway.

“Rookie To Display Special Paint Scheme” BHR2 and driver Chase Montgomery announce the signing of Herbalife International, Inc. as the primary sponsor for the August 25th NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The Herbalife colors and logo will adorn the #8 DODGE truck of the Mt. Juliet, TN native for the O’Reilly 200 under the lights at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile”.

No Formulas: “There isn’t a formula that makes you win at short tracks. So there isn’t a reason why we’ve had 10 different short-track winners, but that gives the fans another thing to pull for in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It’s hard to win at a short track and being there at the end usually pays off for drivers. You see a lot of veterans win on short tracks just because they’ve been there to figure the track out and are patient enough to wait on the right timing during the race. There is not really a certain way to drive them. Just staying out of trouble is hard enough. It pays to be in the front of the pack. Maneuvering through the field is next to impossible, so track position is worth the gamble in the pits. You have to be quick with your reactions, but don’t over react because that can cause a whole other wreck in itself.”
Chaffin Says No Strategy to Bristol: Bristol Preview
Strategy, Not Here: “There is not much strategy at Bristol. We don't have happy hour there because it is a one-day show, so we'll have two hours of practice and that's it. If you aren't fast off the trailer, there's not a lot of chance you're going to get it fixed. It's not a very long race, because at 16 seconds per lap, 200 laps go by pretty quick. The biggest thing for me is to make sure I am mentally prepared. Things happen so fast there you don't have a lot of time to think about it, you have to rely on instinct.”
Montgomery Green with Envy at Bristol
In the world of motorsports there are many superstitions about what brings you bad luck – and one of them is having a green race car or truck. However, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie Chase Montgomery enjoyed having his truck decorated in green as he piloted his #8 Herbalife DODGE to a 20th place finish on Wednesday night in the running of the O’Reilly 200 at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
Ray Montgomery Supports Both Competing Children from Canada
Why would Ray Montgomery, co-owner of the No. 8 BHR2 team in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, elect to be in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada and miss one of the most exciting events of the season at Bristol? Not only did Ray miss watching his son Chase compete for the first time this season, he was also in a part of the world where you can go 100 miles in any direction and see where all the wheat in the world must be grown – or so it seems. The closest race track for him on this day was Regina’s ¼ mile track - which just also happens to be surrounded by wheat.

Hamilton Race Recap:Bristol Motor Speedway
BRISTOL, Tenn., (Aug. 26, 2004) – Characteristic to Bristol Motor Speedway races, Square D driver Bobby Hamilton barely scraped by several close calls and even pushed one truck sideways down the front straightaway in the O’Reilly 200 and still managed to finish the 200-lap event in the 12th position. Hamilton extended the gap in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points race by 99 over second place Dennis Setzer.
Dickies Race Recap:Bristol Motor Speedway
BRISTOL, Tenn., (August 25, 2004)- Dickies driver Chad Chaffin raced comfortably in the top 15 in the O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway until a wreck in turn three took him out of contention with only 33 laps to go. The Dickies Racing Team was able to repair the No. 18 Dodge with one lap to go allowing Chaffin to finish the race. Chaffin brought home the mangled Dodge in 29th place.

Believe Me When I say: “I don’t pay a lot of attention to the points right now, really I don’t. I feel like with five races to go there will be a lot of pressure on me to go harder for the championship, but for now I think winning races is more important. If you continue to win races or get top-five or top-10 finishes, then the championship will fall into place. You have to keep in mind that you have sponsors to please and they would love the championship and they love to win as well. So you have to go for what you can get when you can.”

One-Day Show: “If the truck isn’t running well, I prefer to have the Happy Hour practice and then race the following day. It gives Crew Chief Kip McCord and I time to sort some things out. If you unload and the truck is really fast, then you like the one-day shows because it doesn’t give everybody else a chance to catch up. We’ve had some success with the one-day show format this year. We ran one-day shows at IRP and Milwaukee and we finished first and second (respectively). At Nashville, even though it was a two-day show, it was run like a one-day event. We didn’t have a Happy Hour and we struggled a little bit there. So it just depends on how you’re running as to whether you will be fast or not. I think it’s harder on the crews than it is the driver doing everything in one day. They have to work all day to get the Dickies Dodge ready to race and then be fast on pit road that night. As for the driver, I don’t have a real preference.”

RICHMOND, Va., (Sept. 9, 2004) – On lap two of the Kroger 200 at Richmond International Raceway Square D driver Bobby Hamilton slid up the race track and hit the wall coming off turn four. The Square D Racing Team worked overtime trying to help Hamilton’s crippled Dodge get the best finish possible. Hamilton’s respectable 26th-place finish helped him keep the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead over Dennis Setzer.
Dickies Racing Recap: Richmond
RICHMOND, VA (September 9, 2004)- Loss of track position and penalties on pit road proved to be the culprit of the 22nd place finish for the No. 18 Dodge in the Kroger 200 at Richmond International Raceway. Dickies driver Chad Chaffin’s 15th top 25 finish allowed him to maintain sixth position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Chase Montgomery has undoubtedly had an eventful 2004 rookie season, but nothing like his bizarre night on Thursday in Richmond. The New England area was inundated with heavy rain from remnants of Hurricane Ivan on Saturday – and in turn the patience of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Chase Montgomery and his BHR2 team were put to the test. Confidence: “I have confidence in my team. I’m not points racing until five races to go. For some reason my team really shines on big race tracks right now and that happens to be where we are racing for the next several weeks. I said back in Richmond, that if I could just get through that race and New Hampshire and hold onto the points lead, then we feel like we’re the guys to outrun. That is a good feeling as an owner and a driver going in, especially this late in the season.”

Winning Fashion: “I know we can get back to victory lane. The thing about winning races is I can’t put a number on how many times I will win because I didn’t expect to win Dover or IRP. We go into every race thinking we can win and you have to position yourself for it. The last few races we have not been in that position. If we can get the Dickies Dodge luck turned back around and things go our way, we could win two or three of these final races. We have to get our focus back on winning. BHR will soon be back to its dominating fashion. In this sport you can’t predict a lot of things, but I am confident in my guys and that we’re going to be competitive enough to be in a position to win one race or two or more this season.”

Chase is coming off a solid 17th place finish last week in his first visit to the New Hampshire International Speedway. LAS VEGAS, (September 25, 2004) - Chad Chaffin battled an extremely loose race truck all night in the Las Vegas 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Dickies Racing Team adjusted the truck every opportunity they had to help their driver bring the Dodge home in 16th position.
Bobby Hamilton Race Recap: Vegas
LAS VEGAS, (Sept. 25, 2004) – Bobby Hamilton noticed in the first few laps of the Las Vegas 350 that his temperature gauges were pegged on his Square D Dodge so he backed off to take care of his equipment. Doing that really helped the veteran and points leader finish the event in fifth position, his ninth top five of the season. Hamilton is now 39 points over second place Dennis Setzer in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship.
No Lady Luck for Montgomery
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie Chase Montgomery was looking for some Las Vegas luck on Saturday, but like most visitors to the “city that never sleeps” he did not find that luck. Montgomery and his #8 DODGE struggled to a 27th place finish in the running of the Las Vegas 350 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

New Lights: “I paid a lot of attention to the lighting around the track in California when the Nextel Cup guys raced there. I think it will be better for me and all the other competitors, and even the fans. You just sort of take it in stride when tracks add lights because it is what it is, there is no changing it now. The part about California that stands out is that it is a slick race track when it gets hot. It changes a lot, kind of goes in and goes out. The race track is very consistent; you don’t have to make a lot of changes. On the other hand, the fans are having a great time because it is a good cool night instead of a hot day.”

California Preview: “I enjoy going out west and racing on tracks like California Speedway. It offers multiple racing grooves. It is one of the tracks you can draft on and that becomes really noticeable as the race progresses. You will see much of the same racing action as we did in Michigan earlier in the season. You come really close to racing wide open at California, but never all the way. The ability to change grooves allows for great racing for the fans and the drivers. Racing under the lights provides a better show for the fans and I feel that is what many of the tracks are going after. I enjoy racing under the lights because the weather is a lot cooler and that benefits both the fans and the teams.”

The track is very much like Michigan and we had a good set up and strong truck there earlier this year. There is a lot of room for racing which give us several different racing grooves.

Hamilton started in the 36th position and by the end of lap one, he was already in 28th place. Rollins also told his team to make a slight adjustment to the track bar so Hamilton could be tighter in the corners.

Five Races Left: “I’ve been telling the media and fans this whole year that with five races left in the season, I would start points racing. I wanted a bigger cushion that what I have at this point, so I’m still going to be out for the wins. The Craftsman Truck Series is so competitive this year that at any point in these last few events, you can’t count another driver out. You never know what the last five races will bring. I don’t think you can count any of the competitors out that are mathematically in the chase. Look how good Ted Musgrave has been these past few races, and if Todd Bodine were racing with us all year he would be right up there for sure. I know that Dennis Setzer’s bunch is not going to let off and Carl Edwards can easily make points up he lost with a blown motor. The main thing I can do right now is keep my consistent finishes. I have to keep my nose clean and all of our parts have to work. One slip and it can be washed away. No one ever said winning a championship is easy, that is the great thing about our sport.”

Confidence the Key: “Confidence plays a huge part in racing. The team has to have confidence in the driver and the driver has to have confidence in the team. It has to be the perfect equation. When I start a race I have 100 percent confidence that my team has done the best they can do to set up my truck. They have to have confidence that I can go out and win with what they have given me. The confidence level of the whole team is going to have its ups and downs. If you have a couple bad races in a row you really start to question your ability to either drive or the setups you’ve created. On the other hand, the confidence a victory can bring is immeasurable. I think the challenge is balancing the good and bad. You have to be able to except the bad races, learn from them and turn them into victories next time.”

Chase is coming off a much needed strong performance last time out as he finished 16th at the California Speedway. Texas is one of this rookie’s favorite tracks and he looks to make a charge to the front once again. “This one has been marked on my calendar since the first race back in June."

FT WORTH, (Oct. 16, 2004) – Square D Driver Bobby Hamilton tested at a similar track two days before the Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway and the extra practice session paid off. Even though Hamilton had to start in the rear after a motor change on Friday night, he finished the race in third, his best finish at that track. His 11th top-five finish this season allowed him to spread out the points gap to 79 points ahead of Dennis Setzer with only four more races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 2004 season.
