Dickies Racing Preview: Homestead
11-16-2004 | Homestead-Miami Speedway

Under the Sun: “I am really looking forward to the racing and the weather at Homestead this weekend.  It is a pretty straightforward track.  Homestead is not difficult to drive, but you have to be able to use the draft to your advantage.  We tested there and I really believe we found something good.  The Dickies Racing Team is 10th in points going into this weekend’s Ford 200, but I know we can finish better than that.  We need to have a solid top-10 run at Homestead and with a little luck I believe we can climb up as high as seventh position in the points standings.  We have struggled a little this year on 1.5-mile tracks, but after testing there it doesn’t concern me as much this weekend. The Dickies Racing Team had a solid finish last week at Darlington and I am hoping to play off that run with an even better one in Homestead.  Hopefully the bad luck is gone for good.”

Last Race: “Homestead is my last race with the Dickies Racing Team.  This season has been so much fun for me.  I have enjoyed being a part of a wonderful organization and working with my guys at Bobby Hamilton Racing.  I am so proud of what we have been able to accomplish this year.  I wish them all the luck next season.  They are strong group of guys and will be a force to reckon with at many of the tracks next year.  No matter what happens in the future, I will always remember this year for my first NCTS win at Dover.  It was such a team effort and that is how I will always remember it.  Winning the next race at IRP was icing on the cake and such a show that was.  I still can’t believe we won that race!  I want to thank Dickies for being such a great sponsor and I wish them all the luck as they go on to new levels in the sport.  We won’t be racing together next year, but this team and season will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Notes:
• Chad is racing Scarface this weekend at Homestead.  At the end of last season Hamilton passed this truck over to Chaffin.
• He has raced it seven times this year finishing in the top five twice.
• Scarface started on the pole, led the most laps and won the race last year at Homestead with Hamilton behind the wheel.

Championship Prediction: “I believe Bobby (Hamilton) will bring the championship home for BHR.  It has been his year and I am so thankful to have shared it with him.  I think he has a good chance at winning the race in Homestead too; that is if I don’t.  What a celebration that would be for BHR!  The Square D Racing Team has to be careful and play all their cards right.  They only have a 70 point lead and that is not what I call a cushion.  Dennis (Setzer) is a strong competitor and you can never count him out, but I still think Bobby has got it covered.  He needs to go out there and get a top-five finish and then he’s pretty well got it in the bag.  But knowing Bobby he won’t settle for just a top-five finish, he’s going to go out there and whip the field like he did last year.”
