Subbing for Bobby: (Chad Chaffin) “I subbed for Bobby (Hamilton, truck owner) one time at IRP because he was busy practicing his Winston Cup ride at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He was driving the Dana Dodge for the truck race and he asked me to come to Indianapolis and practice it for him. I jumped at the chance. I remember being really nervous. I thought what if I put this thing in the wall? If that happened it would ruin his whole weekend. I wanted to do a really good job and help him get the truck worked out. Bobby thanked me on TV and that made my day. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of pressure. At the time it was a big deal for me to be able to do that for him.”
Final Weekend of Camouflage: (Chad Chaffin) “It’s really been a lot of fun to run this camouflage paint scheme for the last four weeks. I know it was hard for the team to put on each time since it was so detailed, but we got a ton of compliments on it. There are a lot of hunters out there that really related to the truck. It not only brought exposure to Dickies, but it has brought a lot of new fans to the No. 18 team and me. Our traditional paint scheme is one of the best looking ones out there, so either way we have a great looking truck. It’s been a lot of fun running it.”
Short Tracks: (Chad Chaffin) “You never know what to expect out of a short track. They are so competitive. The difference between the fastest and a 10th place truck may be one-tenth-of-a-second. It is tougher to run well on short tracks than it is on the 1.5-mile tracks where your equipment can get you up front. The racing at IRP reminds me a lot of Saturday night racing at Nashville Speedway – a place where so many of us cut our teeth. It’s a flat track so bumping and banging is bound to happen. I am confident about our chances at IRP. The Dickies Dodge continues to be fast off the hauler and that will be in our favor this weekend with the trucks being impounded after qualifying. Hopefully, when the night is over the Dickies Dodge will be in victory lane.”
Bragging Rights: (Kip McCord) “The guys are really pumped about the Dodge Pit Crew Challenge this weekend at IRP. It’s all about bragging rights for the remainder of the season. They’ve been practicing once or twice a day for the past week to prepare for the competition. It helps keep them get motivated and focused for the upcoming weekend. My guys are fast on pit road and I have confidence they can win, but our first priority is still winning the race Friday night.”
Notes:
• Chad is racing Butthead this weekend at IRP. He has raced it four times this season finishing in the top five twice.
• Chad’s has qualified in the top-10 for nine consecutive weeks.
Points Racing: (Kip McCord) “I feel the No.18 Dickies Dodge is right in the middle of the points battle. We are 46 points out of third going into this weekend. We have had some bad luck here and there and most of the guys in front of us have not. Anything can happen in the upcoming weeks and with a little luck the Dickies Dodge will be there when it counts. We are working extra hard at taking care of the little things at the shop and at the track, that’s what wins races and championships.”
