Event: Black Cat Fireworks 200
Location: Milwaukee Mile
Qualifying: June 25th 4:30 PM EDT
Race Start: June 25th 8:00 PM EDT Live on Speed

Getting the Edge: “It’s hard to drive around Milwaukee. It’s one mile and flat. It reminds me a lot of Loudon, but even Loudon seems to have more grip. It’s a place of its own because it was created out of an old horse track. Actually the first time I ever raced in Milwaukee was in a Hooters Pro Cup Series car, I won the race. It was 1997 and that was the biggest win of my career up to that point, now of course that is overrode by Dover. I have some experience at Milwaukee, but just because I’ve won on that track, I don’t necessarily think I’ve got an edge.”
Attack the Track: “You have to attack Milwaukee pretty hard. The trucks tend to push coming off the corners, so you have to be able to get the truck turning good. It’s so flat that you carry a lot of speed through the turns and the trucks want to drift out. If you get your truck turning good you can be really aggressive coming off the corners. If your truck is not handling good, then there is a big speed difference in between you and a truck that is handling well. So if you can hit the setup, you can run really well around there pretty easily.”

Three Top 10’s: “Even though last week I was slightly disappointed with a ninth-place finish, it just shows how strong we are right now. We are on a roll. We keep going into these races expecting to finish in the top five. I don’t go into Milwaukee seeing things any differently. I know my teammate (Bobby Hamilton) is going to have a really strong truck and I think him winning in Memphis will only help our team in future races. We’re planning on applying his notes to our truck for Milwaukee and we expect to see a lot of results.”

Butthead: “This is the truck we race on all our short tracks. It was really fast at Memphis. Even though we ran ninth, we had lap times comparable to the top five trucks all day long. It was just a track position thing where everyone was protecting that bottom groove and you couldn’t pass. If we can get to Milwaukee, start up toward the front and have good pit stops, then there is no reason why we can’t run really well in Butthead. We are capable of winning if we just keep doing the right things and putting ourselves in the position up front.”

Notes:

  • Chad is racing Butthead this weekend in Milwaukee. He has raced it this year in Mansfield (31st) and Memphis (9th).

Similar Trucks: “Unlike last year, all of the 18 Dickies Dodge trucks are very similar. They all have identical chassis and all the bodies are very close. The thing is at Dover I won in our oldest truck. It was actually a truck that was designated as a backup, but yet it drove just as good as the new trucks that we have. It’s been refitted with a new body and new suspension geometry. So every thing we roll out is identical. One truck may get a little change here and there because we are trying to get better all the time. We don’t have this type of chassis and that type of chassis or this or that type of body. They are all coming off the same way. And all the trucks even drive very similar. I don’t have one truck I like more than the other right now. They all drive good. It takes a lot of the questions out of the equation when you set it up. Then it gives us more time to focus on the race.”
