Event: Black Cat Fireworks 200
Location: Milwaukee Mile
Qualifying: June 25th 4:30 PM EDT
Race Start: June 25th 8:00 PM EDT Live on Speed

Force to Be Reckoned With: “I’m pretty proud of that fact that people say BHR is a force to be reckoned with. From an owner standpoint, I’ve seen how far we’ve come. If you look at it this way, our teams have won, four out of the last nine races if you count Homestead last year. A lot of people don’t know, but we build our own bodies. We started building our own chassis right before Homestead last year and we won (Homestead) with our first in-house chassis. We do everything in house, gears, transmissions, shocks, bodies, chassis, everything except for the motors and they come from Joey Arrington who builds them for Dodge. To be a truck owner, and have that many people that can build a brand-new truck off the steel rack (from the ground up) in 11 days and have it running, that is big for me. Everything we have now is BHR stuff. Chad and I only have two trucks a piece. We are finishing him a new truck now, so we will have three trucks each this season. Then we have two older trucks from last year with our front clips on them. The reason I did that is the Truck Series had 25 races, and at one time last year we had 15 trucks. If you run that many races with that many trucks, you don’t establish personality with none of them. So I said here are three trucks, pick your two best and that is what you race every week. The third one is your back up. Now the teams are starting to say, that truck likes this and that truck likes that. ”

Yellow Lights: “I think it would be a good idea to put that yellow light on the dashboards and I don’t think NASCAR is technically against that. I don’t know what the hold up is, but usually when I go in the NASCAR trailer, meaning the big yellow trailer to talk to Mike Helton, they have a good explanation as to why they are doing things the way they are. I don’t nose around with it much because it ends up working out. I don’t care much for other competitors when we are racing against each other, but I think the world of them when I think they are going to get hurt. I hate that they exercised the rule and made an example out of Jack Sprague they way they did in Memphis, but we’ve got to get the safety equipment to people fast. We’ve got good safety equipment for fires, but one of these days we are going to have a fire and not get anyone to them quick enough. That is the purpose of the new rules. The rule is simple, when the track goes yellow, the field is frozen. We just keep racing back trying to cheat someone out of a position. I’ve done it, everyone has done it. So that is NASCAR’s way of saying enough is enough. If you do it now, we are penalizing you.”

Notes:

  • The truck Hamilton is racing in Milwaukee is Slim Shady. He won with Slim last weekend in Memphis. He’s also raced it in Martinsville and Mansfield.
  • Hamilton and Dennis Setzer are the only two drivers this season who have won two races.

Jack of All Trades: “I do it all. I’m the team manager, the driver, the owner. I’ve got a lot of great people who have a lot of respect for me and I do for them. So for once we have a ton of team spirit around here because I was able to get rid of some bad personalities at the end of last season. Everybody pulls in the same direction. If the 18 catches my tail, then I want to know what the 18 has got. I hope they do the same thing if the table is turned like Memphis. We have our program together right now, but the hard part is keeping it there. One miss and you can be set back three races. The way the competition is now, you can’t afford that.”

Points Battle: "The points race hasn't really surprised me so far because of the caliber of teams that are up front. Dennis Setzer has an excellent crew chief behind him and their results are showing across the board. I don't think it has a lot to do with the new factory money from Chevy as much as the combination of driver/crew chief over there. Dennis is a great race car driver and has proven himself on large or small tracks. Danny Gill is an excellent crew chief and really knows the ins and outs of a truck. The two together have had tremendous luck, skill and results."
