Hamilton Qualifies Third in Memphis
06-18-2004 | Millington, TN

Bobby Hamilton qualified third for tomorrow’s O’Reilly 200 at Memphis Motorsports Park with a lap time of 22.739 seconds in his Square D Dodge.  Hamilton, known as the short-track guru, has yet to qualify outside of the top 10 at Memphis.

“Until last year we never really brought the best stuff we had here,” Hamilton said.  “I would always bring whatever we had just laying around the shop, showtrucks or whatever and run it.  Now we are bringing our best equipment, and so we don’t look for things to break which gave us the finishes we’ve had in the past.

“The truck has felt the same since we unloaded it,” Hamilton said.  “All we did was put some tape on it and get it ready to qualify.  We won’t make any changes to it unless the motor falls out, then all we’ll do is pop a new one in it.”

With only minutes left in the final practice session, Hamilton is on top of the charts.

Jack Sprague won the Pole starting position with a time of 22.705 seconds.  Ted Musgrave, Hamilton, Carl Edwards and Travis Kvapil follow in the top five.

The O’Reilly 200 airs live on Speed Channel, Sat. June 19th at 3:00 pm EDT.
