Race Start: June 19th 3:00 PM EDT Live on Speed

Chicken Salad: “It’s not too often that you take a race like we had in Texas and have the finish we ended up with. I get disappointed when my truck runs around in 10th because I know our team is capable of so much more than that. We made chicken salad out of chicken scratch last weekend and that is how you capitalize on bad races. If a team comes into the track and runs consistently around 5th, they have a legitimate shot at winning the championship that year. Now you still have so many other factors that come into play, but for the most part that team will be a contender. Right now, we need to up our stats. Every race has been a good race for us, and the win was a nice way to start the season. Then going to Martinsville and finishing 31st because of a hose coming loose, we can’t have that happen anymore. But I won’t let myself get down after events like that. It spreads too quickly to the rest of the team. Last year when we broke a motor (the only one in 2003) in Milwaukee, our heads went down and then so did our summer. We lost the momentum. I told my guys last weekend, don’t get discouraged out there. I am much better than what I am showing. It seemed to lift their spirits. It’s like when Danny Rollins (Crew Chief) tells me I am gaining on the truck in front of me. It makes me work that much harder. So we just have to take our chicken salad and make it bigger and better every week. Then we’ll naturally be right back up there contending for the lead in the points race.”

Little Richmond: “Memphis is a lot like a Richmond in the techniques you use to drive the track. Everyone knows that Richmond is my favorite, so Memphis is naturally a good place for me too. On those types of tracks you need to be really disciplined. It’s hard on brakes. So every lap has to be consistent and smooth. The way you drive into the corner makes the truck push coming off, so you have to watch what you are doing to stay smooth. I’ve led a lot of laps there over the past few years and even won a pole, so I tend to be pretty good for whatever reason. Every time I’ve led there in the past, something has broken on my truck, so my finishes look like I had a bad race. Another help to me this year is the fact that my son won the Busch race there last year. He told me a trick or two I think I’ll be trying this time. We’ll see if that helps.”

Bobby Junior: “I’m so proud of the driver that he has become and how he takes up for himself on certain situations. I don’t know who taught him all of that, but I wish I would have been like him when I was coming up through the ranks. He and I have a great relationship. It’s been nice to have someone to bounce things around when it comes to race tracks that I haven’t raced on before. He would tell me little things here and there that might help when I went to tracks last year. Then I would feel my way around and learn what he was talking about. I know I can trust him when it comes to setups or tire wear because so many of these teams will tell you something little and then not the rest of the story. That is really how we all do it, but I think he and I shoot each other straight about things when it comes to racing. It’s really cool for me to watch Bobby Junior and how he carries himself in front of others. He has grown up to be such a stand-up person and that is how he got so far in this sport. He drives good, takes care of equipment and there isn’t a lot of controversy that surrounds him. Those are the types of people we need to mold as the future of the series.”
