Event: O’Reilly 400K
Location: Texas Motor Speedway
Qualifying:  June 10th 5:15 PM EDT
Race Start: June 11th 9:00 PM EDT Live on Speed

Two Wins Out of Six Races: “That isn’t too shabby when you look at it that way, but I have to put on my owner hat and look at it another way. At the beginning of the season BHR was in a league of its own. We were fastest in every practice and qualifying pretty well in race setup. Now it seems as though all these teams have caught up to us. I sat the guys down in the shop on Monday and told them to get with the program. I am by no means trying to take away the win, but we have to stay on top of our game. It’s easy to get a win and then celebrate it too long, and then by that time you have totally lost the edge. I just want them to stay focused and look at the bigger picture, the points race. Nine times out of 10 you can’t win races by mistakes and we seem to be making them, whether it is in pit stops or driver errors. This is the time of the year when my teams usually go into a little slump, so I am trying to avoid that this year. I’ve been sitting down with each department and letting them tell me the weak spots that need to be fixed. They hate it when I sit there and they have to come up with all this stuff, but it makes them think. Then they have to tell me a solution for the problem. Once they come up with all this, then I want to see it implemented. If it is not, I call them on it. It’s the time of season that we have all these races in a row, so step it up. If you do that, more wins will come easier. If you don’t, that table on the stage at the banquet gets farther away each race.”

Habitat for Humanity: Square D personnel will be participating in Habitat for Humanity builds across the country this summer in celebration of our 10,000th home milestone with Habitat and as part of Schneider Electric's program to increase community responsibility. In addition, the Square D - sponsored NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series #4 Dodge will feature the Square D and Habitat Logos with the copy "Partners in 10,000 Homes" on the tailgate of the truck for the remainder of the 2004 racing season. Square D is a Cornerstone Partner for Habitat and has been providing electrical load centers and circuit breakers to Habitat for Humanity International for the past three years. On June 12th, Dave Petratis, President and CEO of the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division, his wife Cindy, their daughters, and members of Dave's senior staff and their spouses will be participating in the build of the 10,000th Square D-product supplied Habitat home in Waukegan's Carter Woods subdivision in Illinois.

Notes:

  • The truck Hamilton is racing in Texas is Beavis. It is the same truck he won with in Atlanta and Darlington. He also finished 10th in Charlotte in this truck.

  • In only three speedway races, Hamilton has one win and two top-10 finishes.

  • He has led two of the three events (Daytona and Atlanta) for a total of 57 laps.

  • His average finish on a speedway race track is 7.3.

Mike Goins, Inspiring Quotes: If you walk in the back of the Square D hauler, you will see the inspiring quote of the week from Transporter driver and Gasman Mike Goins. You might see, “The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.” Or one of the best is, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” You might see, “He who angers you controls you.” Or, “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisors make victory sure.” As it turns out, Goins, a former Marine, gets these quotes from church on Sunday and prints them out for the team. His support goes above and beyond the call of duty, on and off the race track. Goins has worked with Hamilton for several years, and has become one that the driver/owner depends on for many tasks. “It’s nice to know you have people in places that you can count on,” Hamilton said. “I can go into the shop early on a random day and see Mike outside sweeping the parking lot. Or I can ask him at the last minute to do a random task and I never follow up to see it is done. It makes a big difference knowing you can count on employees.”
