Absolutely we can! There is no doubt this team can win and will again. The odds of winning two in a row are probably not great, but the odds of winning any race are not great. I think just because we won last week, doesn’t mean we are going to slack off. We’re going to Texas with the same determination to win and it can happen. Every time you are competitive, you have a shot. We are the perfect example of that.” Soft Walls: “The only report I got on the soft walls was from one of the guys on the maintenance crew that actually helped put them up. He said we need to be aware where it comes off of turn two onto the back straightaway that the wall goes out farther than normal. It takes up some of the room we are used to racing on. He said they got them put up in about a week. So the crews are getting better at installing them. Now we hope to get them at other tracks quicker because they are getting the installation process down pat. It really does make you feel safer out there on the track. It has a double benefit. Motorsports is dangerous by nature; you’ll never get that aspect out of it. I like knowing that if I do hit the wall, the chances of me getting hurt are less. It also makes a difference for my family at home. The other benefit is when you have minor altercations with the wall you have less damage to the truck. I think we saw at Charlotte where some guys just turned and bounced off the wall when before they would have been forced to the garage to make repairs. So the give in the wall helps keep trucks on the track that normally would have been worse. You don’t have to hit the wall hard to knock the rear end housing out of it. With that soft wall now it gives you a little bit of cushion there.”   Notes: Chad is racing Scarface this weekend in Texas. It is the same truck that Hamilton won with in Homestead last year. Chaffin raced this same truck in Atlanta (9th) and Charlotte (30th) this year. His best speedway-race finish is ninth in Atlanta. Joining the Dickies Racing Team this weekend will be Barrett Marx, a Dickies sales employee who won an internal contest to join the pit crew for the weekend. Winning Special for Family: “My boys saw how much money that the Dickies Dodge won in the race. They knew that was a lot more money than I had ever won in a race before. One of them hit me up for a go cart and the other one hit me up for a motorcycle before I even got out of the airport in Baltimore. But when I got home my daughter had put banners on the garage and on the mailbox. She had congratulations and balloons all over the house. That was really special when I drove up. It made me tear up. Then Sunday night I had a party, with about 30 instrumental people in my career, at my house. All the guys and their family that had helped me along the way were there. We even had some come all the way from Atlanta, GA. We watched the race and cheered when I won again. It was kind of hectic around my house, but it was great to spend time with my friends and family who I hadn’t seen in a while. The win was special for my parents as well. They sponsored my cars as I was going up through the ranks. My dad helped build them, and he forced me to work on my own cars with him. I had to build them, learn about them and set them up. Basically dad had the attitude that he would support me financially as much as he could, but it was up to me to make my career happen. I owe a lot to him. I also owe a lot to Cindy.
