Bobby Hamilton Qualifies for Fifth Starting Position at Matinsville
04-16-2004 | Martinsville, Va

Square D driver Bobby Hamilton qualified his No. 4 Dodge in the fifth starting position for tomorrow’s Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway with a time of 20.674 seconds.  The “short-track shoe” is a definite favorite for the race win, especially since he has not been out of the top ten since the truck unloaded this weekend.  On top of that, Hamilton has previously led over an impressive 1500 laps on the .526-mile oval.

“We made race runs in practice and then put tape on it,” Hamilton said.  “That is the way we will race.  We ran the same times we just qualified on 50-lap tires.  We’re pretty happy with that.  The track is slowing up a little bit.  Those Cup guys put down a lot of rubber in practice, so that slowed things down some too.  We’ll be good tomorrow.”

With minutes left in the final practice session, Hamilton was on top of the charts.

Jack Sprague won the Pole starting position with a time 20.499 seconds.  Chad Chaffin, Rick Crawford, Carl Edwards and Hamilton follow in the top five.

The Kroger 250 airs live on Speed Channel, Sat. April 17th at 1:00 pm EDT.
