Bobby Hamilton Racing Announces Daytona Sponsorship
Bobby Hamilton Racing announces a one-race primary sponsorship with Cooper Hand Tools, manufacturer of Lufkin measuring products, Wiss cutting tools and Crescent adjustable wrenches , for the series-opener NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2005. The current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion’s No. 4 Dodge will feature logos of both Lufkin Pro Series and Wiss Pro Series for the kick-off night race event which starts at 8:15 p.m. EDT. Hamilton Crowned Champion “Obviously I’m pretty proud of all my people,” Hamilton said. “I’ve raced for a long time and driven for a lot of other people. I know that if you don’t have good stuff, or strong people to make this happen, it doesn’t happen very easily. This championship is about our team, sponsors and Dodge, without them we wouldn’t be here. I was standing on stage, with my son, grandchild and all of my guys. It’s almost like you wrote a script for a movie, and all of a sudden it lands that way. So, that’s my soft spot with this deal.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Homestead Ford 200 - Homestead-Miami Speedway Square D Racing Preview: Homestead Championship Hopes: “Homestead, again, is another good racetrack for us, and we tested really well there. You know, you just take things hour by hour now. I still have to out-run the No. 46 truck at Homestead. That is the easiest scenario to clinch this thing. We don’t think by any means that we have the championship in the bag going into Homestead. We have plans to run our same deal there, to lead at least one lap and finish as good as we can in the race. I had no idea that I would finish second at Darlington. I thought before going there the best scenario would be that if Dennis finished 15th, that I would be happy with 14th. During the race I realized how good my truck was and told myself to try to get as many positions as I could. I caught it at the right time and I put myself up there. Once I got up there I told myself to try to stay there. It was easier to do it that way. The championship can kill you if you dwell on it all the time. Yes it is on my mind now more often than I want it to be, but I am sticking to my same deal, race for the win and the championship will fall into place.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Darlington Darlington 200 - Darlington Speedway Square D Racing Recap: Darlington DARLINGTON, S.C., (Nov. 13, 2004) – Trying to save tires for the race, the Square D Racing Team practiced only two laps on Darlington Raceway’s 1.366-mile oval before qualifying. The genius idea was useful when Hamilton got those fresh tires with only 30 laps left in the Darlington 200 and went on to finish second. The 12th top-five finish of the year allowed Hamilton to extend the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead over Dennis Setzer by 70 points with only one race left in the 2004 season. Square D Racing Preview: Darlington Track’s New Look: “Just driving up the road and seeing the lights not even on yet made a huge difference at Darlington. The place looks so much better. I think it is a great thing that NASCAR has done. I’ve been going to Darlington for years and if the humidity didn’t get you, the rain would. So it makes it more comfortable for the race fans to watch and gives us more time to play with in case of rain delays.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Phoenix Chevy Silverado 150 - Phoenix International Speedway Square D Racing Recap: Phoenix PHOENIX, (Nov. 5, 2004) –Square D Driver Bobby Hamilton finished seventh in the Chevy Silverado 150 at Phoenix International Raceway and as a result of his 15th top-10 finish, he got back the points lead. With only two races left in the season, both of which Hamilton won last year, the Tennessee native is seven points over Dennis Setzer. Square D Racing Preview: Phoenix No Worries: “The minute you worry about the points lead is when it gets to you. I’m the same every week. Other teams have been worrying too much about this. They’ve been falling back every week. We had to wreck in Martinsville to give it to them. I’m not putting any stock in this championship yet. We started points racing with five to go and we went into Martinsville points racing. We lost the lead there by only one point, and I had to get extensive damage on my truck to do that. So all we’ve got to do is win or get a top five in the last three races and we should be fine. I finished fifth at Phoenix last year. I’ve won every Darlington I’ve entered (two events) and we won Homestead last year. The last few races are good for our team, so we’ll see how it plays out.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Martinsville Kroger 200 - Martinsville Speedway Square D Racing Recap: Martinsville MARTINSVILLE, VA., (Oct. 23, 2004) –Typical of short-track style racing, Square D driver Bobby Hamilton and his competitors did not give up any real estate in the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway without a fight. Hamilton and the drivers were bumping in turns and rubbing fenders on the .526-mile oval until halfway through the race when traffic stopped abruptly in front of him causing him to rear end a truck, bust his radiator and finish the race in 26th position. Square D Racing Preview: Martinsville No Changing the Program: “The biggest mistake that people make is changing their program at the end of the season. We just can’t do that. If I could have raced with the other two front runners in Texas for the win, I would have done it. But I wouldn’t do something crazy like go three wide for victory. The points battle comes down to this, when you get to Homestead and you have to finish in a certain position, then you finish there. However right now I have four or five teams I have to try to finish in front of these last few races. These are the teams that finish in the top 10 each week. So you just can’t get out there and ride around. You have to win races and collect points. I need a sponsor for next year and winning races gets you a sponsor a lot faster than a championship does.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Texas Silverado 350K - Texas Motor Speedway Square D Racing Recap:Texas FT WORTH, (Oct. 16, 2004) – Square D Driver Bobby Hamilton tested at a similar track two days before the Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway and the extra practice session paid off. Even though Hamilton had to start in the rear after a motor change on Friday night, he finished the race in third, his best finish at that track. His 11th top-five finish this season allowed him to spread out the points gap to 79 points ahead of Dennis Setzer with only four more races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 2004 season. Square D Racing Preview:Texas Five Races Left: “I’ve been telling the media and fans this whole year that with five races left in the season, I would start points racing. I wanted a bigger cushion that what I have at this point, so I’m still going to be out for the wins. The Craftsman Truck Series is so competitive this year that at any point in these last few events, you can’t count another driver out. You never know what the last five races will bring. I don’t think you can count any of the competitors out that are mathematically in the chase. Look how good Ted Musgrave has been these past few races, and if Todd Bodine were racing with us all year he would be right up there for sure. I know that Dennis Setzer’s bunch is not going to let off and Carl Edwards can easily make points up he lost with a blown motor. The main thing I can do right now is keep my consistent finishes. I have to keep my nose clean and all of our parts have to work. One slip and it can be washed away. No one ever said winning a championship is easy, that is the great thing about our sport.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: California American Racing Wheels 200 - California Speedway Square D Recap: California Speedway Hamilton started in the 36th position and by the end of lap one, he was already in 28th place. The first caution came out on lap eight and Crew Chief Danny Rollins called Hamilton into the pits so they could top his No. 4 Dodge off with fuel. Rollins also told his team to make a slight adjustment to the track bar so Hamilton could be tighter in the corners.

Las Vegas 350 - Las Vegas Motor Speedway Square D Racing Preview: California New Lights: “I paid a lot of attention to the lighting around the track in California when the Nextel Cup guys raced there. I think it will be better for me and all the other competitors, and even the fans. You just sort of take it in stride when tracks add lights because it is what it is, there is no changing it now. The part about California that stands out is that it is a slick race track when it gets hot. It changes a lot, kind of goes in and goes out. The race track is very consistent; you don’t have to make a lot of changes. On the other hand, the fans are having a great time because it is a good cool night instead of a hot day.” Bobby Hamilton Race Recap: Vegas LAS VEGAS, (Sept. 25, 2004) – Bobby Hamilton noticed in the first few laps of the Las Vegas 350 that his temperature gauges were pegged on his Square D Dodge so he backed off to take care of his equipment. Doing that really helped the veteran and points leader finish the event in fifth position, his ninth top five of the season. Hamilton is now 39 points over second place Dennis Setzer in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship. Square D Racing Preview: Las Vegas Confidence: “I have confidence in my team. I’m not points racing until five races to go. For some reason my team really shines on big race tracks right now and that happens to be where we are racing for the next several weeks. I said back in Richmond, that if I could just get through that race and New Hampshire and hold onto the points lead, then we feel like we’re the guys to outrun. That is a good feeling as an owner and a driver going in, especially this late in the season.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Loudon Sylvania 200 - New Hampshire International Speedway Square D Racing Recap: Sylvania 200 LOUDON, N.H., (Sept. 18, 2004) – After a delay of three hours and 45 minutes for rain, the Sylvania 200 finally got under way at New Hampshire International Speedway. Mid-race, Square D Driver Bobby Hamilton worked his way up to the second spot and stayed out to lead a lap in the 200-lap event when a miscommunication cost the team the win. Hamilton went on to salvage a 15th place finish and kept the points lead. Square D Racing Recap:Richmond RICHMOND, Va., (Sept. 9, 2004) – On lap two of the Kroger 200 at Richmond International Raceway Square D driver Bobby Hamilton slid up the race track and hit the wall coming off turn four. The Square D Racing Team worked overtime trying to help Hamilton’s crippled Dodge get the best finish possible. Hamilton’s respectable 26th-place finish helped him keep the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points lead over Dennis Setzer. Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Richmond Kroger 200 - Richmond International Raceway Hamilton Preview: Richmond Believe Me When I say: “I don’t pay a lot of attention to the points right now, really I don’t. I feel like with five races to go there will be a lot of pressure on me to go harder for the championship, but for now I think winning races is more important. If you continue to win races or get top-five or top-10 finishes, then the championship will fall into place. You have to keep in mind that you have sponsors to please and they would love the championship and they love to win as well. So you have to go for what you can get when you can.” Hamilton Race Recap:Bristol Motor Speedway BRISTOL, Tenn., (Aug. 26, 2004) – Characteristic to Bristol Motor Speedway races, Square D driver Bobby Hamilton barely scraped by several close calls and even pushed one truck sideways down the front straightaway in the O’Reilly 200 and still managed to finish the 200-lap event in the 12th position. Hamilton extended the gap in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points race by 99 over second place Dennis Setzer. Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Bristol O'Reilly 200 by Valvoline Maxlife - Bristol Motor Speedway Hamilton Tries to Sweep Tennessee: Bristol Preview No Formulas: “There isn’t a formula that makes you win at short tracks. So there isn’t a reason why we’ve had 10 different short-track winners, but that gives the fans another thing to pull for in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It’s hard to win at a short track and being there at the end usually pays off for drivers. You see a lot of veterans win on short tracks just because they’ve been there to figure the track out and are patient enough to wait on the right timing during the race. There is not really a certain way to drive them. Just staying out of trouble is hard enough. It pays to be in the front of the pack. Maneuvering through the field is next to impossible, so track position is worth the gamble in the pits. You have to be quick with your reactions, but don’t over react because that can cause a whole other wreck in itself.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Nashville Toyota Tundra 200 - Nashville Superspeedway Hamilton Wins at Home! LEBANON, Tenn., (Aug. 14, 2004) – Since Bobby Hamilton’s push to talk button on his radio, which helps him communicate with his Square D Racing Team, did not work the entire 150 laps of the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway, he serenaded his team in victory lane with the infamous Gibson guitar trophy – one he has longed for in his home town for years. As a result of his series-leading fourth win this year, Hamilton broadened the points lead over second place Dennis Setzer by 84 points in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship. Square D Racing Preview: Toyota Tundra 200 Bobby Jr. Shake Down: “We built a brand new in-house truck for Bristol and needed to have a test session with it. Bobby Junior drove a truck for me two years ago in Nashville and finished third. He gave us a lot of great input, so this is a natural fit for us again. Harold Holly and all the Marines guys are coming over to pit it, so we’re excited about the help.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Indianapolis Power Stroke Diesel 200 Square D Race Recap: Third at IRP INDIANAPOLIS, IN (Aug. 6, 2004) – On the final lap coming off turn two Square D driver Bobby Hamilton jumped to the outside of Travis Kvapil. The duo battled door-to-door into turn three and as Hamilton came off turn four, he took the position and finished third in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. As a result of his seventh top-five finish this year, Hamilton took the lead in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points championship. Square D Racing Preview: IRP Driving Like an Owner: “This team doesn’t worry about finishing races. I’m driving as an owner this year. I’m an owner who’s got to sign a sponsorship for next year, and I need TV time to keep that sponsorship. To get TV time we’ve got to win races. We’re not just riding around and being so spooked that we don’t try several things in risk of losing points. I’m just not going to do it. We’re a few races out from looking at points. The closer we get to the end of this year, about six or seven races out; we’re going to look at the points. Then I might be conservative behind the wheel, but then again I think not.”

Line-X Spray-on Truck Bedliners 200 Square D Racing Recap: Hamilton Finishes Fifth DETROIT (July 31, 2004) – On eight different occasions Square D driver Bobby Hamilton led for a total of 50 laps in the Line-X Spray-On Truck Bedliners 200 at Michigan International Speedway. Hamilton finished the race in the fifth position, after leading the most laps; and closed the gap in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point battle to just 33 points behind Dennis Setzer. Bobby Hamilton Square D Preview: Michigan Not Points Racing: “I think most people saw in Gateway when I had a totaled out truck that I’m not points racing. When these teams start doing that, it only causes problems. I’m a firm believer in the fact that if you consistently run well, the points will add up. I want to win the most races this year and the points will fall into place where they may. I’m not out there riding around trying to collect the most points. I want to lead my one lap early to get the extra bonus points for that and then race where I can. If that means lead the most laps, then so be it. We want wins, not top fives or top tens….wins.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: St. Louis Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200 Bobby Hamilton Square D Racing Recap: Ram Tough 200 Square D driver Bobby Hamilton led 43 laps in the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200 at Gateway International Raceway before tangling with Shane Hmeil on a green-white-checkered finish going for the win. Hamilton’s Square D Dodge went up on two wheels riding the outside retaining wall, but he still managed to finish in 17th position on the lead lap. Bobby Hamilton Square D Preview: Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers Ram Tough 200 Speed Calms Me: “I don’t even realize it when I am running 180 miles per hour around a race track. Speed really calms me. The only time I realize how fast I’m going is when I come up behind or beside someone. Then you feel the speed. I can really tell it when I pass someone on a race track because their truck pulls me around so much. You know how when you drive down the interstate by yourself you can be going 80 mph without ever realizing it? It doesn’t bother you until you go by someone running 70 that you notice a difference. The closeness of the cars or trucks on the race track is what makes it hard to stay calm. When your truck is out there moving around because wind in going over and around it, then you can tell what speed feels like.” Bobby Hamilton Photo Gallery: Kentucky Built Ford Tough 225 Hamilton Smashes Numerous NCTS Records After Winning Kentucky In his 60th career start Square D driver Bobby Hamilton led 133 of 153 laps, stretching that lead to eight seconds at times, en route to winning the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Bobby Hamilton Square D Preview: O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 Turn Up the Heat: “When we go to Kansas it is extremely hot. It is unbearable at times. Last year it was estimated that inside the trucks it was 140 degrees. To endure that for two and one-half hours in a race truck going at the speeds we’re going and staying on your toes the whole time is very tough on a driver. A driver’s mind is working so many areas during the race. It is hard to watch your surroundings, think about pitting, change gears or brake while driving at high rates of speed, especially if you get winded.
