Andy Dunlap has been with
BHR since its inception in December of 1998. He is one of only two people
that have never missed a single race the organization has entered. Over the
last five years, Dunlap has helped the team grow and become a force in the
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He has over 25 years of racing and business
experience, so it’s easy to see why Bobby Hamilton picked him to manage
what some would say is the most demanding and difficult assignments that a
team has to deal with.
Dunlap, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, has filled many roles in racing,
including team owner and crew chief. Dunlap’s relationship with Hamilton
began in 1986 when Hamilton was tabbed as the substitute driver for a late
model team Dunlap was working with at the time.
In 1987 and 1988, Dunlap and Hamilton began their car/owner relationship,
only it was just the opposite of the way it is today. Back then, Dunlap was
the owner and Hamilton was the driver. Together, they won two Nashville
Speedway USA track championships before Hamilton moved on to the NASCAR
Busch Series in 1989.
Dunlap continued to work in racing, and in 1993, helped Bobby Hamilton, Jr.
win the Highland Rim Speedway track championship. Dunlap continued to help
Hamilton Jr. until joining BHR in 1998.
Dunlap currently services as the parts manager, overseeing all the parts
support for the three teams that BHR fields in the Truck Series. All the
teams compete full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with drivers
Chad Chaffin, Bill Lester, and Bobby Hamilton respectively.
