Whole New Experience: Chad Chaffin will be in for a whole new
experience when he straps into the No. 18 Dickies Dodge Truck this week at
New Hampshire International Speedway. Although Chaffin has competed in a
NASCAR Busch Series event at the facility in 2000, it was not an
experience that would have given him an idea of what to look for in the
Truck Series race.
"I went up there in 2000, but we didn't have a very good car, so I really
did not learn a whole lot from going there," said Chaffin. "About the only
thing I can say is that I know where the track is and where to park the
rental car. I will definitely be relying on the team's notes from this
place. They have four years worth of notes and experience, along with a
pole here in 2000 with Joe (Ruttman). My goal this weekend is to just get
a solid finish out of the race and continue to gain ground on the guys in
front of us in the points."
Chaffin and the No. 18 Dickies Team enter this week's race only 109 points
behind the eighth place team in the points standings. Over the last three
weeks, the team has gained over 200 points on the four teams in front of
them in the points standings.
Career Starts: When Chaffin takes the green flag for the start of
the New Hampshire 200, it will be his 25th career start in the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series. He will have started 19 of those races in a BHR
Dodge Truck. During his first 24 events in the Truck Series, Chaffin has
recorded two poles, four top five, and nine top ten finishes.
Appearances: Chaffin will be attending the Dodge Pit Crew Challenge
in Laconia, New Hampshire on September 11, 2003 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. He
will be there cheering on his teammates, Bill Lester and Bobby Hamilton,
in hopes that one of them will advance to the finals in Las Vegas Later
this month.
Championship Contenders: With eight races remaining in the 2003
season, there are 17 drivers that can still mathematically win the 2003
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship.
This Week's Truck: For the second week in a row, the No. 18 Team
will race "Chunky." This will be the seventh time the truck competes this
year. Last week, Chaffin raced Chunky to an 11th place finish.

Chaffin Quotes "We're starting to get back into the points
race. Over the last few weeks, we have gone from way out of the top ten,
to now, we can, with a strong finish to the year, get as high as eighth
place in the points standings. We look at the points every week now, and
we know what we have to do to get to the top ten. We have to finish every
lap, lead when we can, and get a top ten finish. It's just that simple."
"I'm not sure what to expect at Loudon. It's flat, but it's fast. I'm sure
I will be asking Bobby (Hamilton) for some advice. He's been here several
times and had some great runs, so I'm sure that his experience should help
me and the No. 18 Team."
"I tell you what. This Truck Series is getting harder and harder to get
into the top ten. A lot of people would like to tell you that this is not
a hard series, but there are about ten guys that can win on any given day,
and that's not counting the Cup guys that come race with us. There are
about 17 to 20 really good teams that you have to beat each and every
week."
