Consistency the Mark for Bill Lester This Year

Bill Lester and the No. 8 BHR Dodge Motorsports Dodge team continued their top 15 performance, by recording a 12th place finish at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night, after starting in the 13th position.

The team raced for most of the evening between eighth and 15th place, and with laps winding down, Lester put the fender to Ted Musgrave’s No. 1 Mopar truck to get past him for the 12th place finish.

“We really started the race thinking this was going to be the night we broke into the top 10, but we still had a good finish,” said Lester. “We just could never get the handle just right on the truck, but we had a solid performance. Once again, the pit stops were good, and the guys made changes for me that helped us. It’s just a little disappointing to finish another race between 11th and 15th place; we’re all keeping our eyes on the big picture, but it’s hard sometimes. We finished all the laps again and moved up one more in the Truck Series points standings. So all-in-all, it was a good showing for the team. The team was great all weekend, and we had no major problems all race long. I’m just looking forward to getting to Memphis in two weeks and hopefully keeping this upward trend in the points standings rolling.”

During the course of the first seven events in the 2003 season, Lester and the team have completed an amazing 98.9% of the laps run or 1248 of 1261 laps. It is that type of consistency that has helped the Danny Rollins led No. 8 team achieve a season and career high, 12th place, in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points.

“It’s hard to say what Danny (Rollins) has meant to this team,” said Lester. “We had a great team last year, but Danny has got the guys all pulling in the same direction, better than ever before. Maybe it’s just a level of confidence he gives me. I just know that we will unload off the trailer, and we’re not going to spend all day the first day looking for what we want to do. Between his calls, Jeff White’s engineering prowess, and the guys’ incredible effort week-in and week-out, there is very little doubt in my mind of what we can accomplish the rest of this season.”
