Last Week's Heat Will Not Effect Lester in Kentucky: Last weekend
at Kansas Speedway, Bill Lester did not get a chance to celebrate his
team's first top ten finish because he went directly to the infield care
center for water and oxygen. But that problem should not affect Lester
this weekend at Kentucky Speedway.
"I got pretty hot last week," said Lester. "The doctor said I had a
temperature of a 102, so they had to give me fluids and oxygen after the
race, but I'm sure I'll be fine this week. I just need to drink more water
than I did last week. I really thought I had consumed enough, but it was
hotter than I can ever remember in one of these trucks."
The heat last week will probably be the last thing on Lester's mind, as he
and his No. 8 BHR Dodge Motorsports team enter this week's race hot off of
their first top ten finish.
"We finally did it last week," said Lester. "We broke our streak of races
without a top ten. Now it's time to up that mark. Kentucky Speedway is
another high speed speedway, and I love every one of the tracks like this.
So again, I'm expecting big things out of myself and this team. Now that
we showed we can finish in the top ten, we need to do it every race."
Lester and the No. 8 Team enter this week's race in the 13th position in
the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings, exactly 100 points out
of the top ten.
"It's still a little
early to start worrying about points, but we need to keep them in mind for
the final five races of the year," said Lester. "This stretch of races in
the summer will help decide much of the points battle, so we need to take
advantage of every opportunity."
Appearances: For the second week in a row, Bill Lester will be
playing softball. This Thursday, July 10, 2003 the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series drivers will be playing the SPEED Channel crew in a softball game
at the Northern Kentucky University campus, just east of Florence,
Kentucky.
"Last year the broadcast guys beat us," said Lester. "But this time
around, I think we'll be better. At least this week may not be as hot as
last week at Kansas. All joking aside, we're going to have fun and sign a
few autographs, but make no mistake, the drivers want to win this time
around."

This Week's Truck: Lester and the No. 8 BHR Dodge Motorsports Team
will be racing "Trix" again this week. They took it to Kansas Speedway
last week and finished a career best 10th place, so they have decided to
role the dice again this week and try to improve on that finish at
Kentucky Speedway. Trix is also the same truck the team race with at
Kentucky Speedway last year, starting in the third position and finishing
in the 14th position.

Lester Quotes "One of the things we wanted to do when the season
started was to eliminate the goose eggs in our performance columns. We
entered this season with zeros in wins, poles, top fives, and top tens.
Now after ten races, we've knocked two of them off with the pole at Lowes
Motor Speedway and last week's top ten, but we've got a few more to go."
"I've been very happy with my team the last few weeks. With the exception
of Memphis, we have had some great trucks. The guys are working well
together and everything seems to be on the rise."
