Making Small Strides: Bill Lester and the No. 8 BHR Dodge Motorsports team have been making steady improvements all this year in the start and finish department. Through the first five races of 2002, Lester and the team had an average start of 13.2 and an average finish of 20.6, having completed 800 laps of a possible 857 laps of competition or 93.3%.

In 2003, the team has improved on all those marks. They have an average start of 12.8 and an average finish of 15.4. They have also completed a fantastic 98.5% of the laps run or 881 laps of 894 laps run. The team currently sits in an all-time high, 14th place, in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings.

"Needless to say, we're happy about the improvements, but we know we still have plenty of room to get better," said Lester. "And that is just what we're going to work on and accomplish over the next three months."

JoBue, Ready for Dover: Last week, JoBue, the team's new voodoo doll mascot, helped them win their first pole. Granted, the team did not have the finish they were hoping for, but they are not ready to give up on JoBue quite yet. He will be onboard for the high banks of Dover International, with his red hair flying in the wind.

"Oh yeah, he'll be onboard," said Lester. "The guys are having a lot of fun with it, and he was pretty good to us last week on pole night, so we're going to give him another try."

Guests and Appearances: While in the Dover, Delaware area, Lester will be making an appearance at the Dover Air Force base, with several other drivers, to sign autographs for the family members of the troops overseas.
The No. 8 team will be participating in a joint effort with Craftsman and Urban Youth Racing School program on race day that will have several students paired up with drivers and teams.

"I've supported the Urban Youth Racing School for several years now, and I think what they do is vital to the diversity movement within NASCAR racing," said Bill Lester. "I think it's great that we're going to have one of the students with us during the weekend. It should be a lot of fun for him or her."

Truck Drivers Association: Dave Quay, driver of the No. 8 Dodge Motorsports transporter, was elected the new president of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Drivers Association for 2004. Quay has been with BHR for the last two years as a truck driver and gasman on race day. Before that, he worked in the same capacity for the No. 88 Truck Series team.

Lester Quotes

"I've been waiting for this part of the season to come around for months. We're now going to be racing just about every week for the next three months and I for one am happy to see it. Mind you, I'm having a great time spending time with my wife and our new little boy, Alex, but I'm a racer and I'm ready to get after it every weekend."

"Last year we had a solid day here at Dover. We stayed out of everyone else's problems all day long and finished 12th. It was a tough learning experience that I hope will help me run even better the second time at round at this historic place."
