No. 18 Team Defending Winners: The No. 18 Dickies Dodge team enters
this week's race as the defending winner of the Sears 200 at Michigan
International Speedway. Last year, the team led 76 of 100 laps enroute to
victory in Dodge's backyard so to speak.
"This is one of the two biggest races for the team," said Chaffin. "These
guys won this race last year, so there is a little pressure to repeat. The
other big race for this team is at Nashville in a few weeks. I've only
raced at Michigan one time in my career, so hopefully the boys will help
me out a little. I think I'm going to see if one of them has last year's
race on tape, and I'll watch it just to be safe. All joking aside, we
should be good up there. Our speedway program is really good right now, so
I'm pretty excited about racing at Michigan."
Halfway Race: Michigan International Speedway marks the halfway
race in the 2003 season. Through the first 12 events this year, the No. 18
Dickies Team has shown a lot of promise by winning a pole and running up
front on several occasions. But like many teams, they have not had the
best of luck. It seems that just about every weird thing that can happen
to a team has happened to Chaffin and his team.
"It's been a good first half of the year, but I think we were all looking
for a better start to the deal," said Chaffin. "We've been really fast,
but different things have taken us out of contention several times. We've
been working really hard to rectify these items and get this team back to
where it belongs, but it's going to take some time."
Appearances: Chaffin will be fairly busy this week in Michigan. On
Thursday, July 24, Chaffin and the Dickies Dodge transporter will be
making an appearance at the Anderson Store in Toledo, Ohio from 11:30AM to
2:00PM. Then on Friday, Chaffin and the entire Dickies team will be
attending a Dodge corporate Bar-B-Que on a lake near the Michigan
International Speedway. Following the event on Saturday, July 26,
Chaffin will take part in a Match Race with Brendan Gaughan at Kalamazoo
Speedway from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

Chaffin Quotes "This is one of the races that we marked early
in the season that is really important to shine at. It's right in the
backyard for the big three automakers and bragging rights are on the line.
Last year this team gave those rights to Dodge, and we're going to be
trying extra hard to keep that win in the family again."
